Dear Skyline High Parents and Families, We regret to inform you of the passing of our math teacher, Shaunda Trimmer. She was hospitalized earlier this week as the result of a stroke and passed away early this morning. We do not have any additional details to share at this time but once we have information on any public services, we will share that information with you. We express our profound condolences to her family and friends and want to ensure that our students and staff have the support they may need.
For those who worked with Shaunda, you know what a powerhouse she was in all things she did. Her math students were blessed by her excellent math instruction and her inspirational can-do attitude. She was a stalwart advocate for her fellow teachers. She modeled tenacity, high expectations, grit, and determination. All who worked with her and were taught by her benefited from her enthusiasm and excellence.
Our district crisis team will be available at the school on Monday for any students who may need help. If your child may be affected by this tragedy, please contact the school on Monday and we can arrange for support for your student. We encourage you to talk to your student about her passing. They need a caring adult with whom they can talk about grief and loss.
Please share with them what you believe, the grief feelings you may have experienced in your life, and healthy ways to cope with those feelings. We have linked a resource below with this email to help with these discussions. Additionally, we would remind our students that the SafeUT App is always available 24/7 to provide emotional help and supports to any student or individual.
Going forward if your student needs additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the school to discuss your specific concerns.
In the short term, we will work with students in her classes using lessons Ms. Trimmer has already prepared. We will work quickly to find a more long-term solution. We know how important mathematics is for her students and will ensure we provide the best supports possible to help all students through this tragedy and throughout the rest of the year, mathematically.
Sincerely,
Mitch Nerdin
Principal, Skyline High School
