January 11, 2021School News January is National Human Trafficking Awareness MonthHuman trafficking is a global issue and it happens everywhere. Utah has the fourth highest rate of human trafficking reported cases when compared to the top 10 states per capita. We are excited to announce that Granite School District was one of the eight national organizations that was awarded the Human Trafficking Youth Prevention Education grant. We are developing the process of implementing one of the first federal programs specifically designed to educate & build resiliency to human trafficking in children and youth within our schools. Our program will include state approved curriculum that will focus on 5th, 7th, 9th & 11th grade students. Their instruction will focus on awareness and prevention education. All district personnel will complete the Human Trafficking Prevention Education learning module. In addition, we will also outreach to our families and community partners in educating on how to prevent and identify a child in crisis and safely intervene to save them from horrific situations.National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is recognized each year on January 11th. In recognition of this important day, Blue Campaign hosts a social media campaign called #WearBlueDay. To raise awareness of human trafficking, we at Woodrow Wilson Elementary are supporting this campaign on Monday January 11th. #WearBlueDay #GSD
