After much work, our school reopening plan has been approved. This will help you make an informed decision as to what type of learning you want to request for your child.
Eastwood Elementary Condensed Reopening Plan
Communication and training
• Teachers will receive training where they will be able to give feedback and seek for understanding during professional development.
• Para educators will be given this same opportunity after school begins.
• Teachers will train students on the first day of school and throughout the school year as needed.
• Naomi Hopf is the point of contact for Eastwood. Contact information: nwhopf@graniteschools.org Phone:(385) 646-4816.
Accommodating Individual Circumstances (e.g., High-Risk, Personal Decisions)
• The school district nursing department working under the direction of the Utah Health Department will provide a list of COVID-19 symptoms. We will have copies available for teachers and patrons.
• Staff will be provided information on symptoms of ‘high risk’.
• If needed, ‘high risk’ employees will be directed to Human Resources for guidance in possible accommodations.
• All families will be given the choice prior to each quarter in selecting face-to-face learning or on-line distance learning.
• Our school nurse and assigned staff will go over all 504’s, IEP’s, & IHP to look for those who need additional support to address risk for exposure and accommodations for those with special health care needs.
• The school psychologist will be tasked with monitoring staff as well as working with students for social and emotional needs, in conjunction with our Behavior Health Aid. This may include one-on-one support, a calm down space and classroom training.
• Indicate assurance: Develop increased cleaning and hygiene protocols for custodian, teachers, paras, and students.
• Wear face coverings when not social distancing.
• Provide hand sanitizer, soap, water, disinfecting solution and cloths in various location in school.
• Provide contact tracing when required by health department.
• Disinfect touch services at least twice daily.
• Have adequate supply of PPE supplies, sanitizer, soap, etc.
• Use floor markings and signage for distancing and expectations.
School Schedules
Granite School District has three schedules that they are prepared to implement depending on what may be happening due to the virus. The three schedules are Regular, Modified, and Dismissal.
• With the Regular Schedule students will be allowed to attend every day using the board approved school calendar with increased safety and mitigation measures in place. We plan to use this schedule unless notified a change is required. Additionally, distance learning is available during the Regular schedule.
• On a Modified Schedule, school will operate on a split A/B schedule M-Th (Half the students in a class will come on Monday/Wednesday and half on Tuesday/Thursday.) Students not receiving face to face instruction will utilize distance learning or paper-based modules. On Fridays, all students will receive distance learning. Teachers will also use Fridays for planning, small group meetings, and interventions. Students would be divided alphabetically so students in the same families can be on the same schedule. Accommodations will be made on a case-by-case basis.
• The third schedule would be Dismissal. A dismissal may only include a class, a grade level, or a school. These decisions would be made in the event of an outbreak and in conjunction with the Health Department.
At Eastwood we are considering staggering start times according to last names. This is still to be determined when an accurate count of students returning to school is known. Further communication will be forthcoming. In any case:
• Students will be assigned a line up spots – each class has its own unique stencil and each student will be assigned a number space coinciding to their class stencil.
• Staggered recess is being discussed but would require additional personnel.
Monitoring Incidents
• Ensure that all staff recognize symptomology through district provided flowcharts.
Containing Potential Outbreaks
• Learn and share CDC protocol for tracing positive COVID cases.
• Train all employees on the protocol.
• Isolation room will be the nurse’s office to be supervised by principal or by school nurse.
Transition Management Preparation
• Everyone will be notified by Blackboard email and phone, Facebook, website posting, and notes home if there is a temporary dismissal.
