Dear Eastwood Families,
I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. It’s hard to believe that December is here and the calendar year is almost over. As the saying goes, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” I enjoy working with you and your children, so time is passing quickly for me.
We wanted to remind you about and ask for your help with the following:
Fundraiser – Here’s the “Scoop” … We Need You!
We are raising money for student incentives and recognitions, supplies to supplement learning, science and technology materials, and auditorium enhancements. Every dollar donated stays in our school and is 100% tax deductible! Donate now through December 12.
We have raised $5,241.64 so far – we are ⅓ of the way to our goal! If each family donates $65.00/child, we can reach our goal of $15,000. We gladly accept cash, checks (made payable to Eastwood Elementary), or credit card payments at https://successfund.com/eastwood
To encourage school wide participation, incentives will be rewarded based upon the average amount of money raised per student in each class.
- Level One – $30/student = Extra Recess
- Level Two – $60/student = Extra Recess and Ice Cream
- Level Three – $90/student = Extra Recess, Ice Cream and Movie Party
If we reach our goal, we will have a schoolwide dance party with Mrs. Drummond!
*** This just in … Mrs. Drummond will become a human ice cream sundae if we raise $15,000! Students who raise the most money will help turn her into a sundae. ***
Thank you for supporting Eastwood Elementary!
Attendance
In keeping with our commitment to providing a quality education, we are concerned when a student misses school for any reason. Please send your child to school on time each day. We understand that a student must be absent from school occasionally for acceptable reasons such as illness, medical appointment, family emergencies, etc. Please call (385-646-4816) or send a note explaining the reason for your student’s absence. Remember, students should be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
District attendance procedures are as follows:
- Excusal notes must be received within ten (10) school days following the return from an absence.
- After five (5) unexcused days within a school year, you will receive an Attendance Inquiry letter asking for your help with your student’s attendance.
- After ten(10) unexcused days of being absent within a school year, you will receive a letter inviting your family to attend a Group Attendance Support Meeting hosted by a District representative.
- After fifteen (15) unexcused days of being absent within a school year, you will receive a letter inviting your family to attend an Individual Attendance Support Meeting to implement a Student Attendance Plan.
Cold or Inclement Weather
Our school procedures and expectations for cold or inclement weather include:
- All students are expected to arrive at school dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. Please label all coats, jackets, hats, etc.
- All students will go outside at recess time.
- Students remain outside if the weather is clear and the temperature, including wind chill, is 20 degrees or higher. This threshold was discussed and voted on by our Community Council.
- Please do not send students to school too early. It is recommended that students arrive at school as close to 8:35 a.m. as possible.
Traffic Safety
Now that snow is here, we ask you to be extra careful when dropping off or picking up students. Please follow our safety procedures to keep everyone safe.
- Children should be ready to exit your vehicle as soon as it stops.
- Drive all the way around the lot, staying in the right lane and pulling forward to the furthest spot possible.
- Children must enter and exit your vehicle from the passenger side, nearest to the walkway.
- If your child needs your help (unbuckling their seatbelt, getting out of the car, gathering their things, opening the door), please park in one of the visitor parking areas to assist your child.
- Drivers must remain in their vehicles while in the pick-up lane.
- Display your “Pick-Up” pass so it is clearly visible at all times.
- Pull forward until your child arrives at your vehicle. Don’t stop, just keep pulling forward.
- Once you have your child(ren), signal and pull into the left thru lane to exit.
- If you must enter the school, park in one of the visitor parking areas and use the marked walkways.
