Advanced Learner Testing
Learning comes first in Granite District Schools. We are fully committed to excellence and equity for all students. This is only achieved by providing differentiated educational experiences and programs based on the individual needs of students. There is a population of students who have the potential to perform at high levels whose needs cannot be met without specialized programming and/or accommodations. Granite School District has an Advanced Learning Center (ALC) program to address the academic and emotional needs of students that have advanced content knowledge and skills and who show evidence of extraordinary learning. In addition to the ALC program, each elementary school has a plan in place to meet the needs of high-ability students in the Advanced Learner Cluster groups.
If you would like to have your child tested for possible placement in an advanced learner program, please let our school coordinator, Laurie Carlson (licarlson@graniteschools.org) and our school principal, Christine Drummond (cdrummond@graniteschools.org) know on or before November 10, 2023. This testing is for placement in the advanced learner programs for the 2024-2025 school year.
Some students may have been assessed in a previous year. It is not necessary to re-assess a student once they have been evaluated unless they want to be considered for an Advanced Learning Center or if they are interested in taking junior high GT classes. From these assessments, district staff will determine those students who qualify for placement in the ALC program, Advanced Learner Cluster program at the student’s neighborhood school, or GT classes at the jr. high school.
More information can be found on the Granite District Gifted and Talented Web Page.
Halloween Festivities
We are excited to celebrate Halloween on Tuesday, October 31. Just like last year, we will be parading for families and friends outside the building. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and remember to dress for the weather.
Students will begin parading through the school at 9:00 a.m., then walk out the south doors and around the perimeter of the playground. We anticipate being outside around 9:10 a.m. After parading outside, our students will parade inside the school one more time. Our main office doors will be locked until the parade is over. Any wonderful volunteers helping with class activities need to bring id and check-in at the main office.
Please remember the following when deciding on a costume:
- Costumes must be school appropriate.
- Costumes should not interfere with learning.
- Eyes should remain uncovered (no full face masks or eye masks)
- Dress in something that is comfortable to sit in all day at a desk.
- Wear something that allows for movement in the classroom and hallways and at recess.
- Costumes may not include accessories/props that look like a weapon or could be used as a weapon.
Thank you for helping everyone to have a fun and safe day.
