Granger Elementary will be sending a hard working team of 6th graders to the Granger District’s FIRST® Lego League (FLL) Scrimmage. Granger’s team has chosen the name of “Fierce Bananas.”

Each team is responsible for three specific tasks:

• Program a robot to complete as many missions as possible in a 2’30” window
• Know, present, and follow the Core Values of FLL
• Gather research to find a solution to a challenge

Please help us say farewell to Mr. Bawden, assistant principal. He will be moving to Redwood Elementary and Armstrong Academy.

As Mr. Bawden moves forward, Ms. Jolynn Kohler will be coming back to finish the school year. For the past several months, she has been serving as the acting principal at another Granite School District elementary school. The Granger Family has been so grateful that the Granite School District assigned a full-time assistant principal to Granger this year.

So why have a spirit stick at Granger Elementary?

Every member of the Granger Family has planted a desire for our students to succeed at learning.  According to researchers from The Ohio State University, students have a better chance to succeed when, “The school environment is orderly and serious…” (Hoy, Sweetland, and Smith 2002).  The way students line up before school, and walk in the halls during school must be orderly and serious so that when they arrive to their classrooms they are ready to learn.  

Two spirit sticks will be awarded weekly to the one class from the lower grades and one class from the upper grades that exemplifies readiness to learn.  The class gets to decorate a section of the stick and proudly carry it in the halls as they transition around the building to various classes and activities.

We know that successful learning only comes with commitment, dedication, and hard work, and we want to award the classrooms with the Granger Spirit Stick that visibly embody these ideals

You may have had a peach, but have you tried jicama?  Students at Granger Elementary have been learning about new fruits and vegetables each week as we participate in the Granite School Districts’ “Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.”  Ask your student what fruit or vegetable is his or her favorite!

On September 11, 2015, many volunteers helped out at Granger Elementary.  They read with our students, offered service, and left us with a beautiful mural!!!  Thank you United Way!
