A lot of our students have the desire to attend college but aren’t sure how to pay for it. Fortunately, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) gives many of our students the opportunity to receive funds to attend college. These funds can come in the form of grants, work study and student loans.
As counselors, one common phrase we hear from students is “my parents make too much money so I won’t qualify”. Although not everyone may qualify for funds, you never really know unless you apply! It isn’t uncommon to hear of students who thought they wouldn’t receive financial aid and ended up receiving more than they anticipated. It is also good to note that the majority of colleges actually require that you apply for the FAFSA in order to be considered for their school specific scholarships. You might be surprised to learn that your student does indeed qualify for assistance.
We invite all parents of our senior students to come to our FAFSA Completion Night on November 9, 2016. At this event you will receive help in filing and submitting your FAFSA application. We challenge all students, regardless of their family’s income, to come and submit their FAFSA. We find that many parents who come in and apply for the FAFSA say that it’s not as scary as they thought.
