Dear Kearns High Parents-
Today, during 3rd period, approximately 120 of our students joined with students from Hunter High School & Taylorsville High School in a walkout in protest over this week’s national election. The walkout started with 200+ students from Hunter walking to Kearns. Upon reaching Kearns, these students continued their walk to Taylorsville High. Approximately 500 students in total were involved. This left the vast majority of students from these 3 high schools choosing to stay at their respective schools & take advantage of the educational opportunities offered at their school.
Providing quality instruction & ensuring student safety every day are primary goals of the administration, faculty, & staff of Kearns High. Today that included those students who chose to participate in the walkout & those students who wanted to stay in class. With the assistance of the Unified & Granite Police Departments, those involved in the walkout where kept as safe as possible. The staff at KHS also worked hard to provide an environment conducive to learning for those remaining students. Attendance was taken today in all classes. Please check the Parent Portal to view your student’s attendance.
This event was covered extensively by the local media. If your student is under 18, the news media cannot legally interview your child without your permission. Please contact the media outlet directly if you have any concerns.
Kearns High School has provided the best education possible in a safe environment for 50 years. Today that tradition was continued & will continue for at least another 50 years. Thank you for being part of Kearns High School.
