A HAWK beacon (High-Intensity Activated crossWalK beacon) is a traffic control device used to stop road traffic and allow pedestrians to cross safely.
Please take notice of this new device in front of our school and follow all the rules to keep everyone safe!
For pedestrians:
Step 1: push the button on either side of the road.
Yellow lights will begin to flash. DO NOT cross during the flashing yellow lights. This is a warning for passing vehicles to slow down.
Step 2: Once the solid red light has shown, check both ways to make sure vehicles have stopped. Cross the street.
Step 3: The solid red light will begin to flash. You may still cross but be aware that vehicles may pass once they stop and make sure the crosswalk is clear.
For vehicles:
Step 1: The flashing yellow lights will start. Start to slow down, pedestrians are wanting to cross.
Step 2: The solid red light will appear. STOP the entire time the solid light is shown. Even if pedestrians aren’t crossing.
Step 3: A flashing red light will appear. Each vehicle must treat the flashing red light as a stop sign. STOP when you are the first vehicle at the crosswalk. IF the crosswalk is clear, you may slowly pass. Be aware students are still able to cross on the flashing red.
