Good Evening Parents and Students:
As the Coronavirus situation evolves we continue, as a district and school, to move forward with offering our students the best education we can using the distance learning supports available. We realize this form of educational delivery is challenging for ALL, which is why Granite School District designed the 4th quarter grading rubric. This rubric should already be in your possession via an email from the district. If not, we have posted it on our school website and for students on our social media pages.
We appreciate the trust and confidence you continue to place with your Kearns High staff as we continue to work on serving our students through these times of uncertainty. Like you, our district and your school administrators are continuing to monitor the Coronavirus developments and are following guidance from relevant authorities whom we serve.
We are aware that there are many unanswered questions you may have. Please know I am meeting with my district bosses weekly on Zoom meetings to discuss each question. The decisions to these questions must be made under the CDC guidance and consideration of our Governor. As your Principal, my responses to your questions are being guided by that platform and my district bosses. I ask for your patience and understanding with the process.
Moving forward here are a few updates:
-Seniors, another survey will be sent out regarding graduation which will require your participation. This second survey will ask you to consider 3-4 graduation options. The survey will be launched on April 22. Seniors, please participate! We only had 209 of you respond to the first survey and we have 426 in our senior class. We need your input!
-With the NEW 4th quarter grading rubric in place I need ALL Kearns High School students to engage in your work. The rubric is student friendly and WE need 100% participation. Currently, we are at 60% participation rate and that is not acceptable. Students, your teachers are here and ready to serve you. Please engage in your learning. Remember, a PASS grade will NOT affect your GPA.
-Paper packets and Chromebooks continue to be handed out in the main hall from 8:00-2:00. Please come and pick up what you need. If you are picking up packets, please remember to put your name and your teachers name on these packets. Also, make sure you complete the entire packet of work.
-If your Chromebook has been damaged in any way since you checked it out please bring it in ASAP to be repaired. We would like to fix them as issues arise rather than wait until they are all turned in. Remember, all prior damage was recorded before you signed for responsibility for the device.
-Granite District is providing Wi-Fi busses all over the valley to increase your internet access to promote increased distance learning. The flier was sent to your homes and we have taken the liberty to post it on our school website and social media pages. Students please take advantage of this opportunity.
-Kearns High is still scheduled to administer the ACT in June and July if the social distancing restriction is lifted. If not, we will continue to send out information and post as we receive updates. Vouchers will be handed out on a first come first serve bases this week. Please look for dates and times on our website and social media platforms.
-Information will also be posted regarding our Virtual Tryouts for Drill Team, Dance Company, Cheer, and SBO groups. This process will begin in May. More information to come.
-Summer Driver’s Ed. will be hosted at Kearns High if social distancing is released. You may call the school to sign up, but no money will be collected until we know for sure this will occur. Mr. Williams will continue to move the dates as needed to follow the CDC and district directions.
-Updates will be posted daily as needed to our website and our social media pages.
As always, we are here to serve you. Thank you for your continued confidence and support through this challenging learning process. Please reach out to your teachers, staff, and administration for assistance. Be safe and stay healthy!
Respectfully,
Principal Loo
