Good Evening Parents and Students:
I hope this weekend finds you all safe and healthy. As we continue to navigate social distancing and keeping ALL safe there are still some things we need to complete as the school year ends.
The week of May 4th – May 8th is Teacher Appreciation Week. Students, please take a minute to message your teachers to let them know how much you appreciate all they have done for you throughout the year. Thank you in advance for taking the time to recognize our amazing Kearns High School teachers!
Last week we handled all of the athletic equipment returns, locker clean up, and band instrument returns. A few teachers will be reaching out to have your children safely enter the building to pick up projects while practicing social distancing. We want you to know that we have used painters tape throughout the school hallways as we make attempts for them to enter the building and stay six feet apart.
Beginning tomorrow, May 4th, and continuing through May 12th, we will be completing hall locker clean outs and PE locker clean outs. The schedule for this process was sent out last week for your review. I ask that you assist us with your children coming to the school ONLY during the listed times. We will NOT be able to assist students if they come to the building during an unscheduled time. WE will be practicing social distancing as students wait outside the building to enter. WE will have bright orange tape on the concrete for students to wait in preparation for entry into the building. If students are unable to come to the building to clean out their lockers our custodians will place all personal items in a garbage bag with Locker numbers on them. We will keep these bags in the main hall for students to come and pick them up during the hours of 8:00-2:00 Monday – Friday until May 22nd. Any bags left after that time will be discarded.
Information regarding textbook and Chromebook returns will be coming soon. Please watch the website and social media for these updates.
As we are nearing the end of the school year another decision is still pending – how will we celebrate our Senior Class of 2020. Let me share what I know so far:
-I will be meeting with our Graduation Committee, SBO President, and Senior Class President tomorrow at 8:00 am in the Media Center to share the data from the survey.
-At the conclusion of this meeting I am charged with the task of emailing my District Director, who will be meeting with Superintendent Bates.
-Superintendent Bates will share with the Granite District Board of Education the decisions made by the eight high schools. As High School Principals, we hope to have a decision by the end of the week. When I receive the information I will send it out.
-In the meantime, we have purchased “Lawn Signs” to honor our Seniors. Immediately after your locker clean out you will walk around the building to the main most northern entrance to enter the building. Your counselors will be there to welcome and congratulate you and give you your lawn sign. Please take them home and stake them in your yard. This gesture is to help let our Seniors know that we appreciate them and want them to know that we have not forgotten them.
-I will also be contacting Jostens at the end of the meeting to determine when they can come into the school and organize Senior cap and gowns for disbursement. Seniors, when they are ready we will post it on social media and our school website as we want you to have them prior to the decided upon ceremonies to take pictures in. We will let you know when and how we will need them returned.
I thank you for your patience and understanding as there are many moving pieces to everything that must be done for the safety of all.
Respectfully,
Principal Loo
