Good Evening Parents and Students:
Students, I hope you took the time today to celebrate your moms and wish them a “Happy Mother’s Day” for all that they have done and continue to do for you. They are awesome women in your lives. The older I get, the more I realize how much of an influence my mom has been in my life. So, students, hug your moms and let them know you love and appreciate them.
As we are down to a couple more weeks left of school I have a few things to continue to promote and remind you of:
-Students, please engage, complete, and submit your assignments and assessments given by your teachers. We need you to put in some effort so we can consider a grade.
-You should be aware of the districts grading scale and “no student failing“ policy. Only incomplete grades will be given if a pass is not earned. Those incomplete grades must be made up by next October. You must engage in your work so you can earn a PASS grade and not have to worry about making anything up.
-I have been looking on my teacher’s gradebooks recently and have noticed several of you have no grades or submitted work. There is still time. Please make every effort to change this.
-Thank you to those who have turned in library books. If you still have them please come to the school and turn them in.
-For those who missed locker clean ups, we have placed your personal items in a plastic bag. Come to the school with ID to pick them up.
-Continue checking our website and social media accounts for updates over the next two weeks. Most of your questions can be answered by reading through these posts.
-Seniors, we will be distributing caps and gowns on Tuesday, May 12th from 8:00-11:00 in the main west parking lot. Please follow the directions regarding pick-up in the message I sent out last week. We still must follow the district and CDC guidelines as we complete the process safely. If you cannot find the message please refer to our school website for the details. We will have tables set up on the sidewalk in the west parking lot with your cap and gowns. Jostens will be there with the rest of your graduation and senior regalia you may have ordered but had not yet paid for. We will also have a card for you if you have not yet paid for your caps and gowns with Jostens online payment information.
-Seniors, because of the allowance of extra time to resolve incompletes for every student, ALL seniors will be participating in the graduation “walk activity” on May 21st.
-Seniors and senior parents, I know that a few of you are concerned about the “one car per senior” decision that was made. I apologize, but this was done with multiple levels of consideration given the fact we are taking a chance with all of the following: Allowing more than twenty cars, seniors socially distanced to allow for their names to be read and to “walk” and receive their diploma cover from me, pictures taken from the car, a teacher professional photographer, staff senior name readers, and myself congratulating EVERY senior graduate. This will be a four hour affair, which is traditionally two hours longer then we have ever had to consider. Plus Unified blocking off Cougar Way for 4 hours.
-On May 22nd, after 6:00 pm, everything that has been done over the next two weeks on video and in person, will be published as a YouTube video to be viewed and shared with family unable to attend this ceremony to celebrate our seniors.
-We still have senior lawn signs available. If you have not picked yours up, please do so when you come to get your cap and gown. WE have the concrete already marked with social distancing markers in case you may have to wait to enter safely.
-Lastly, we will be announcing how yearbooks will be made available as soon as possible. They are scheduled to arrive at the school on the 15th. I will update you next Sunday on the distribution process.
Thank you all for helping us adhere to guidelines to ensure your safety and the safety of others. These are unprecedented times which require some “out of the box” thinking and planning. I apologize that, under these conditions, I cannot make everyone happy. My biggest concern is the well being and safety of our students while still allowing some type of restrictive celebration to honor our class of 2020.
Respectfully,
Principal Loo
