The highlight of the Senior Awards is our announcement of the Outstanding Senior Boy and our Outstanding Senior Girl. The process of selecting these remarkable young people begins in the 9th grade. The awards are based on an accumulation of points in the areas of academics, citizenship, athletics, extracurricular activities, clubs, school, state, and national awards, and ACT scores. Teachers have been turning in points for our students from the beginning of their freshman year. The points are accumulated and at the end of the senior year all the points are put together and the top scorers are the Outstanding Senior Boy and Girl. These young scholars are the best and the brightest that Kearns High School has to offer. This year’s two seniors are talented, bright, gifted young people who represent Kearns High school with the highest integrity. Our recipients have excelled in many disciplines and many activities.
Our 2020 Outstanding Senior Girl is accomplished in all aspects of her young life. She received an outstanding score on her ACT and has maintained a 4.0 GPA while successfully completing a slew of honors courses including: AP US History, AP World History, AP Human Geography, Concurrent English, Concurrent Mathematics, and honors math, history, science and English courses every year. She has been on the high honor roll each quarter during her four years at Kearns High School, resulting in a spot in the top 10% of the senior class. She has earned a Diploma of Merit, specializing in Citizenship, English, Publications, and College Preparation/Academics. She gifts others with her beautiful voice in Madrigals and creates memories for peers as an integral member of the Yearbook staff. Her teachers, coaches, and advisors describe her as hard working, bright, and driven, stating that “ In the four years I have known her I have seen her grow more and more self-assured; this year she was the best Yearbook Editor you could hope for. What impressed me most was that the students truly looked to her as the leader. They listened to her (she gave them no choice – the girl led with an iron fist) and valued her opinion” and “I love the way she can be so simultaneously sunny and grounded. She has been an absolute joy to have as a student and on the yearbook staff and will be dearly missed!” Kearns High was proud to have her represent us as the English Sterling Scholar, where she was able to shine through her writing and prove her passion not only for the English language but also her community. These academic and extracurricular accomplishments led to her acceptance into Brigham Young University. Please congratulate our 2020 Outstanding Senior Girl: Desirae Rees
The 2020 Outstanding Senior Boy is a talented young man who received over a 30 on his ACT and has maintained a stellar GPA, been named to the high honor roll each quarter of his high school career, and earned a spot in the top 10% of the senior class all while completing his fair share of honors courses including AP Calculus, AP English Literature, AP US History, AP Physics 2, Honors English, Mathematics, Science, and Geography. Throughout his time at Kearns he used his love of singing to bring joy and cheer to peers, faculty and staff, elderly, and the community. Not only did lend his voice to blend with peers in concert choir, but also as a revered member of Madrigals. His energy was well spent during countless hours of tennis practice where he honed his skills to represent Kearns on the court. He proudly represented Kearns High as our Vocal Music Sterling Scholar, where he created a stunning portfolio that earned him a spot as a semi-finalist. His teachers describe him as hard-working, responsible, witty, and fun. His teachers have this to say “He uses his leadership skills to engage and motivate his peers, while keeping the atmosphere light. His critical thinking skills make teaching him exciting, as you never know what he is going to say to surprise and outwit peers and the teacher.” These academic and extracurricular accomplishments led to his acceptance into Brigham Young University. Please congratulate your 2020 Outstanding Senior Boy: Hyrum Kammerman
