Dear Kearns High Parents and Students:
By now you should have received correspondence from our District concerning our fourteen day dismissal and change over to distance learning. If you did not receive the email please check your junk mail or access the information on our webpage.
I can confirm, after reviewing our data dashboard, being involved in the contact tracing process, and verifying with our district COVID team, this is the safest choice to make at this time.
With this dismissal comes some changes to stop the spread of COVID-19:
-We will move to distance learning beginning Monday, October 26th. Students will be returning to “face to face” learning on Monday, November 9th.
-On October 26th – October 29th we will have adult aides at the west doors from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Students may drop off library books (no late fees will be accrued during the excusal), pick up supplies from their teachers (please contact your teachers to make these arrangements prior to coming in), and pick up or bring in Chromebooks for repairs.
-No work packets will be printed. Students will need to engage in their school work online via Canvas. Please check your Canvas for messages and instructions from your teachers.
-All contacts with your teachers will need to be made via Canvas or email.
-Final grades from first quarter can now be viewed through the parent portal. Official report cards will be available in the parent portal and through the student center in about two weeks. Report cards will be distributed to face to face learners on November 9th and will be mailed home to distance learners.

-School lunch will only be served from 10:30-11:30 on Monday – Friday during the dismissal weeks. Please bring your lunch card with you and enter on the east side of the cafeteria to pick up your meal. Fridays are a curbside “grab and go”. Due to a grant school lunch is free through December or until the Federal money runs out.
-Due to the dismissal, STUDENTS ARE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND the two athletic events we are hosting, Volleyball and Football. Students, we apologize for this decision, but it is the standard procedure during dismissal for fourteen days to lessen our COVID data. This is the protocol has already been followed by three Granite high schools during dismissals.
-Only parents and guardians will be allowed to attend athletic events and attain their tickets on our ticketing platform. Please contact Mr. Wooldridge with any ticketing questions. (skwooldridge@graniteschools.org)
-Please review our school website and social media platforms for various updates that could occur given our current culture.
Parents and students, I realize the hardship that comes with the school dismissal for safety and caution. However, in order to maintain a safe learning environment and the health of all students and educators, this is the approved platform by the health department that I am required to execute. Students, your teachers will be available during their contract time 7:10-2:40 pm, Monday-Friday. Your daily lessons will mirror the revised A/B calendar posted on our school website.
Remember that the new quarter begins on Monday, October 26th, our first day of dismissal. Please take this chance to start fresh, put forth your best effort, and don’t fall behind.
As always, if you have any questions, please call the Main Office at 385-646-5380 so we can assist you. Please continue to wear your masks and social distance as much as possible for your safety and the safety of others. With the rise in positive COVID cases and the flu season soon upon us we need to be extra careful. We appreciate your continued support at this time.
Respectfully,
Principal Loo
