Dear Kearns High Students and Parents:
I am sure by now you all have received the email from Ben Horsley, District PR Director, regarding our school status and new testing opportunity. I would like to echo the positivity of this opportunity and ask that each parent register their student to take the “Rapid Covid Test” to help stay safe at school and home. Our goal is that every “face to face student will choose to return to school during these last two weeks before the winter break and engage in their studies, instead of choosing to stay home and risk disengagement.”
Please remember that 2nd quarter officially ends on January 15th, but with the newly approved calendar most teachers will only be accepting work through January 8th to provide them with the time to grade and enter scores before posting and attending required professional development. This only gives your students five “in-person” learning days to work with teachers after the Winter Break. Please have your students check and abide by these due dates on each teacher’s Canvas pages as they may vary from subject to subject.
Parents, we are committed to the safe academic success of your student, but we are unable to test them without your permission. This is the first pilot high school attempting this “Test to Stay” process in Granite District. I honestly believe this is the right thing to do and, although it is taking a lot of organizational and personnel to pull this off, I am convinced it is the best option for our “face to face students”.
I ask that you please do your part to read the document and fill out the form at the end of the link. Make sure you go to the very bottom as you must consent TWICE. You can fill out the consent form here.
If you do not wish for your student to test or participate, they will remain at home for the next two weeks and return after Winter Break in January 2021.
Thank you for your continued support during these unprecedented times.
Respectfully,
Principal Loo
