Dear Kearns High Parents and Students:
I hope this letter finds you all doing as well as you can under our current, but hopefully improving, pandemic culture. I wanted to report that our students are doing very well. We are making every attempt to stay safe and healthy while in school as we continue to perform the “test to play” every two weeks in accordance with UHSAA and the Health Department requirements. I have been very proud of our students for keeping themselves safe and our thanks go out to parents for assisting in this process. Our District and the Health Department have made every effort to administer the vaccines for all school employees. I am happy to report that after almost two months the process has been completed for all who chose to take advantage of this protection.
Students, as we prepare to end the 3rd quarter on March 26th please be sure that you are meeting your teachers deadlines for grading purposes, turning in all needed assignments, and completing all assessments. Thank you for taking care of your responsibilities and meeting these deadlines in order to finish the quarter strong.
As we move into 4th quarter, beginning on April 5th, I would like to share some reminders:
-Spring Break begins March 28th and runs through April 4th – teachers will not be available during this time.
-Next week all high schools in the State of Utah are conducting the Junior ACT Exam on March 23rd . Only Juniors will be attending school on this day; 9th, 10th and 12th will be doing distance learning. This information was sent out via Canvas this week and is listed below.
ACT INFORMATION: The ACT exam will be administered on March 23rd for ALL junior students!
In order to successfully test you must:
Bring your Chromebook fully charged and ready to go. You have been directed by your English teachers on how to prepare your Chromebooks. If your Chromebook dies during the test, due to ACT regulations, you will NOT be allowed to finish the test. We are not allowed to provide you with a backup and you cannot change seats to plug into an outlet. This will result in too much of a disruption to other testers and cannot happen.
If you are experiencing ANY issues with your Chromebook or charger you need to bring it in ASAP and to the library to get a new one (this includes lost chargers).
Distance learners who have NOT checked out a school Chromebook must come in that morning to pick one up in the library. You MUST use a school device to take this test.
Bring pencils and a pen. You will be provided scratch paper.
Bring a photo ID (student or driver’s license).

For GTI 9th, 10th, & 12th Students – Ask your GTI Teacher for information.
-We are also hosting a virtual accreditation process between March 23-25. This process allows us to work with an accredited vendor to be certified to function as a state public high school, awarding credit for students to enter college. This process happens every six years. Kearns High has been working on this process and expectation for the last few years. After the process is complete, I will send out the results of the evaluating committee findings.
-Our District, in conjunction with the Health Department, has given ALL high schools the opportunity to hold three school activities for our student body which could include dances, stomps, balls, etc. However, all who attend must agree to be “rapid tested” 24-48 hours before the activity. These activities are currently being planned by our Student Government. As we become aware of these activities, information will be communicated to students and parents. The rapid testing will be done at Kearns High, dates are forth coming. If you miss the test date and are choosing to attend this activity, you must get a rapid test from an outside vendor and bring in your negative test form in order to attend the activity. The test is valid 24-48 hours prior to the activity.
– There is misinformation that masks will no longer be required on campus after April 10th. This legislation DOES NOT apply to schools which are under a different statewide order that expires in July. This policy will be enforced at Kearns High for health and safety purposes.
-Seniors – you only have one quarter left. Please work hard to complete all graduation requirements. If you have questions, please see your counselor. They are working hard to help you graduate by providing you the right classes and credit recovery as needed. Seniors will only participate in graduation ceremonies if they have met ALL requirements which include: completion of your credits 24 or 27, payment of all fines and fees, and the turning in of your Chromebooks, textbooks, and any other resources you were given by your teachers. If you have not taken the time to order your cap and gown you have until April 9th to do so. Please take care of this by going to Jostens.com.
-The delivery of your cap and gowns will be determined by the arrival of these items at our school. As soon as we are aware of an official delivery date we will plan to distribute them in a timely fashion. We will provide as much time as we can for you to have pictures taken in your graduation attire before your big day!
-Seniors, you will be receiving an email in your granitesd account with a link to a graduation survey. The contents of this survey will be shared with our graduation committee so they can make plans for the end of this year. During a special morning announcement we will ask all seniors to access their Granite email and complete the survey. The survey will be sent out around 8:00 a.m. on March 22 to all seniors so make sure you check your inbox, spam, or junk folder so that you have an opportunity to share your input. If you know of any seniors not in attendance on Monday, please reach out to them because the survey will close by the end of the day.
As always, thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions please call Kearns High and we will assist in any way possible.
Stay safe and healthy!
Respectfully,
Principal Loo
