Dear Parents:
As we prepare to end the school year of “flexibility and fluidity,” I wanted to say thank you for your continued support and understanding. This has definitely been a difficult year to navigate under the pandemic culture, but I believe Kearns High fared well in the area of health and safety. Yes, it was NOT ideal to have your students who were exposed or tested positive work from home, but it was the BEST option to maintain their education and safety.
As this week begins, there are some events I would like to make you all aware of:
-May 24th
After school from 2: 15 to 3:30 we will begin issuing cap and gowns to seniors who are completely cleared financially and academically for graduation. If you do not pick yours up at this time you may come to the Main Office after school on Tuesday or Thursday from 2:00 to 3:00. We will not be handing them out on Wednesday due to the rapid testing we are doing for Senior Ball.
-May 24th – May 27th
Chromebook returns and checks will take place in the Media Center. Please refer to our earlier post for return and renewal instructions. Make sure your student comes with a charged Chromebook and charger to return. Seniors must have a Chromebook clearance slip to pick up the cap and gown.
-May 25th
K-Awards for grades 9-11 in the auditorium at 6:00 pm. This program is by invitation only. No children please, only parents. Masks are required and distancing will need to be practiced.
Students who received their first Covid vaccine at KHS on May 4th are scheduled to receive their 2nd dose.
The shots will be administered in our Main Gym from 8-11 am. Students can come down anytime during that window. If our students are AP testing on our date and cannot receive the 2nd shot they may go to another Granite District High School listed on the dates below:
Cyprus and Cottonwood – May 24th
Kearns – May 25th
Taylorsville – May 26th
Hunter – May 27th
If your student needs to travel for the second shot you can call into our attendance office to excuse the absence.
-May 26th
Rapid Testing from 2:30-4:30 in the dance studio for all those Kearns students planning to attend the Senior Ball. If you were already testing on Fridays with the “test to play” protocol during the spring, you will NOT need to register again. If not, please use this link to register to test.
Senior Awards Night at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. This program is by invitation only. No children, only parents. Masks are required and distancing will need to be practiced
-May 27th
LIA awards Night in auditorium at 6:00 pm. This program is by invitation only. No children please, only parents. Masks are required and distancing will need to be practiced.
Senior Ball tickets will be sold in the morning, during lunches, and after school at the bookkeepers office.
-May 28th
Senior Ball at the Viridian in West Jordan from 7:00-10:00 pm. We will be selling Senior Ball Tickets from 8:00-noon during the day. Please note, we will NOT be selling tickets at the door due to security concerns. Make sure you purchase your tickets at KHS at any of the above listed times. Each ticket is $10.00. Masks will need to be worn. We will have sanitizing gel randomly placed throughout the venue for your use.
As you can see we have a full week of fun and adventures. Please do your best to follow the instructions on this letter. We appreciate the opportunity to provide these activities for our students.
Respectfully,
Principal Loo
