Hello William Penn Community!
We have enjoyed the last two weeks with students! Thank you for your continued support as we strive to provide a quality education for all our students during these unprecedented times. As a faculty we have reflected this past week on the instruction we are providing our students. We have discussed the Dual Modality model. This model is when our teachers are providing face to face instruction in addition to Distance Learning. This has been a struggle for our faculty who want to be the best teacher they can be for all their students. Therefore, we have decided in order to provide the best instruction we can for all our students, three teachers in our building will be dedicated to providing Distance Learning for the first term, and the rest of our teachers will provide face to face instruction. We realize this may cause some concern and discomfort for our students who are attending for in person instruction and will need to be assigned to new classrooms.
The teachers who will be dedicated to Distance Learning instruction will be Ms. Pope, Ms. Wood, and Ms. Rawlings. Ms. Pope will provide Distance
Learning instruction for our 1st grade students and ½ of our 2nd grade students. Ms. Wood will provide Distance Learning instruction for our 3rd grade students and ½ of our 2nd grade students. Ms. Rawlings will transition to providing Distance Learning for our 4th and 5th grade students. You can view these changes in the Parent Portal under your child’s schedule. Having three teachers dedicated to Distance Learning will provide parents and students access to a teacher during the school day because they will not have students in their classroom. This will help to ensure ongoing communication between a teacher and the students who are enrolled in Distance Learning.
The students who are currently in Ms. Pope’s classroom will be assigned to Mr. Krupa’s classroom. This will create a class of 23 students. Ms. Rawlings’s students will be assigned to Ms. Ginsberg’s classroom. This will create a class of 30 students.
This plan will be in place for the 1st term. Every term we will reevaluate the number of students enrolled in Distance Learning and the number of students enrolled in Face to Face learning and create a plan based on those numbers. If we were to transition to a Hybrid model or all Online model in our school district, all students would be assigned back to their original home room teacher.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we strive to meet the needs of our students and balance the demands being placed upon our teachers this school year. If you have additional questions, please contact Mrs. Higgins at 385-646-4960.
