This week’s read aloud is another Beehive Book nominee from the informational category. Shark Lady by Jess Keating is about real-life researcher Eugenie Clark, who studied sharks most of her life. In fact, she died in 2015 at the age of 92, having completed her last dive at age 91! Eugenie’s research showed that sharks were smart and could be trained, even remembering what they learned 2 months later. She also discovered that sharks don’t have to swim to stay alive, after observing groups of sharks resting in dark caves. This book has a “Shark Bites” section at the back with more info on sharks, and a Eugenie Clark time line that outlines her life and research from 1922-2015. One copy available in our library next week for check-out.
