Welcome to the Upland Terrace Library! This page will help you stay current on our library happenings throughout the year. My name is Andrea LeBaron and I’ve been the media clerk at Upland since Fall 2017. I love kids and I love books, so this is the perfect job for me! I work to make our library an inviting, safe and interesting place to be. I believe there is a book for everyone and love helping your kids find their books.
Each week I will post an update on what we are reading aloud in the library. I hope you will ask your kids about these books. You might even want to check them out at your community library. (They have multiple copies of Beehive Books and Best books.) I usually only have 1 copy of a book, although there are many popular books with 2 or more copies. At Upland, Kids can also put books on hold first come first serve, which helps them get the book much quicker. I try to get books out as quickly as possible so everyone has something they want to read. Here’s to a great year of enjoyable reading!
Things are a little different this year in the library, due to Covid, but we are making it work! Everyone wears masks and we are cleaning tables, chairs and counters after each class. Students have assigned seating at numbered tables for contact tracing and they are excused by table at a staggered pace to put their old books on a cart and look for new books to help with social distancing. Books go into a 3-day quarantine after students bring them back to the library, and students are only allowed to check out 1 book at a time. We also encourage students to “look with their eyes, not their hands,” and to take the book that they touch. I understand this is NOT ideal – normally I would love to have students opening books and taking their time to find one they are interested in. However, these measures are helping our library stay open, I get to read to them each week, and they have access to the 11,000 plus books at Upland. Thank you for your support this year!
