This week we’ll be diving into the Christmas season by reading Snowmen at Christmas by Caralyn Buehner. This is a fun book in the Snowmen series, which is always popular at our library. It’s Christmas Eve and people are snug in their beds, but something is stirring outside. The snowmen are preparing to celebrate! Under the glow of moonlight, all the snow families are slipping away to gather in the town square for a night of caroling, dancing, and an exciting visit from the snowman Santa Claus. Did you know the author and illustrator have also hidden a cat, a rabbit, a Santa face, a T-Rex and a little brown mouse in each painting? We’ll see what we can find!
Also, for the older kids, I’ll be sharing The Village of Lights by Mitchell Stevens. This author has a special connection to Upland Terrace. Some of you, especially 4th and 5th graders, might remember Mr. Mitch from the Dreamling Writing Workshops a few years ago. He taught students over a 7-week course how to get their own stories on paper. He’s written a beautiful book about a lonely, elderly man who brings Christmas and hope to an English village during WWII.
