This week we are reading What To Do With A Box by Jane Yolen and Chris Sheban. I will also be previewing a fun informational book, Give Bees a Chance, by Bethany Barton. Both are Beehive Book nominees this year, so kids can vote on them. In the first book, we see what happens when you play with a box. Using their imaginations, kids can build a boat, a library or a seascape -the possibilities are endless! The wonderful artwork captures the look and feel of a real box.
In the second book, Bethany Barton uses interactive cartoon-style illustrations and a hilarious narrator to pack this book full of facts and fun. Besides making yummy honey, Bees help plants grow fruits and vegetables. And most bees wouldn’t hurt a fly (unless it’s in self-defense!). With bees officially on the endangered animals list, it’s more important now than ever to appreciate these amazing insects.
