Updates from Upland

Hello Everyone!

We made it through our first 3 days of school. Hooray! We’re so fortunate to have such wonderful staff, students, and parents at Upland Terrace. It is so great getting back into the swing of things and seeing the kids’ smiling faces. 🤗

First Day of School Folders

At Back-to-School Night or on the first day of school, your student received an Upland Terrace folder for this school year. Inside that folder is information about all things Upland Terrace. You will find old info (if you are returning to Upland) about where to pick-up/ drop-off your student, where your student lines up in the morning, a calendar magnet, etc. You will also find new info, like our home-to-school brochure that shows some of what your student learns each year and how you can support at home, as well as our new student handbook. Please, please, please review all of that information. We have been fielding many phone calls that are all answered in that folder.

Parking

Now that we’re back in session and have figured some routines out, I just wanted to send out some parking information. The student drop-off and pick-up area is in our lower west side lot, not in our main parking lot (east of the school). The main parking lot is our bus zone. The buses need easy access, and they are on tight schedules. Many times, cars interfere with buses entering and exiting our lot. Please stay out. The only exceptions to this rule are preschool parents and parents of students in our special classes. Otherwise, we need to leave space for our teachers to park and our buses to get in. So, the main parking lot in front of the school should not be being used for student drop-off/ pick-up. Thank you for your help with this.

Student Handbook

There are some new school policies. These have been created by our school staff and our school community council. Please review the student handbook found in your child’s first day of school folder, or Student Handbook (Google Document). One new policy that is worth noting is our new student check-out policy. It states: “Please avoid checking students out in the last 30 minutes of school, as it disrupts classrooms and bus loading.” We understand emergencies happen and we are willing to work with families in these situations. We are asking everyone else to be prepared if you need your child early and to get them before 3:15. Thank you.

School Community Council

Did you know that every school has a community council? Our community council members work with the principal to develop plans and spend money that will benefit our students’ achievement and our school community. Are you interested in being on our school’s community council? If yes, please email Ms. Anderson and I can send you a declaration of candidacy form. We need to fill 2 parent spots for this year’s council. I need to know by Friday, August 29th at 3:00pm if you are interested.

Free Student T-Shirt

Did you submit your student’s t-shirt size at Back-to-School Night so they can get a free t-shirt? If not, please use this link to submit your student’s shirt size: Submit your student’s shirt size (Google Form).

School Website

Have you ever visited our school website? If not, you should. Our website address is: Upland Terrace Elementary website. You can also Google Upland Terrace Elementary and this should be the first link that pops up. I will be keeping our website up to date so that you have the most recent information. If you missed an email from me, it can be found on our website homepage. Our homepage also has any fliers that we send home, right next to the most recent email.

Orchestra

A flier was on the table in the entryway during Back-to-School night for 3rd-5th graders regarding orchestra class this year. We hope students have been thinking about this and are looking forward to joining. Please see the attached digital flier for more information.
