Dear Parents and Students:
Parent/Teacher/Student conferences are September 28th and 29th from 4-7pm. The 28th is an all virtual evening using Zoom. Please use this link to sign-up for a time: https://pickatime.com/granitesd
If you are having troubles signing up for a time, please use the attached reference sheets. If you still are having problems, please contact the Front Office at 385-646-5244.
The 29th is an all in-person evening. Teachers will be in their classrooms to meet with you. This is a first-come-first serve scenario. Please keep the meetings to 5-7min as we have limited time each evening.
This is a great time to check on your student’s growth and progress on showing proficiency in their classes.
All 8th GRADERS & PARENTS – CCR Plan meeting required by the state of Utah
All 8th graders & parents/guardians need to complete TOGETHER a Nearpod presentation about high school and beyond (Nearpod works best on a desktop/laptop or your student’s Chromebook). At the end, you will be prompted to make an appointment to meet with your counselor. These appointments are required by the state of Utah. 8th grade students and parents will meet with their counselor for 15 minutes to answer questions and discuss student’s interests for the future.
The Nearpod can be found at join.nearpod.com and use the join code: PUFLJ
CCA students- be aware that this Nearpod presentation is an assignment. Students must submit a screenshot of the appointment confirmation message to receive credit. Students who complete this assignment by September 12th at 11:59pm will receive a reward.
REALITY TOWN—VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Reality Town allows 8th graders to experience real life in a simulated environment. Students are given careers, jobs, families, and have to make budgeting and other decisions based on their paychecks and life situations. This valuable program requires about 70 volunteers! Volunteers play roles of car salesmen, bankers, grocers, etc. It’s a fun experience for both the students and adults; we welcome any volunteers–even if you don’t have an 8th grader. If you have questions, contact Anna Bullock 8019490823 or Sarah Pugsley 8016510047. Please use this link to sign up to volunteer: Reality Town
REFLECTIONS CONTEST
The theme for Reflections Theme this year is “I will Change the World By…” All entries will be due by Monday, October 4 and will be submitted electronically. Reflections is a great way for students to explore and be involved in the arts. The categories are: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, 2D Visual Arts and 3D Visual Arts.
Please encourage your student to participate! For questions you can contact Mica Webb 801-707-6844 or access the website, www.utahpta.org/reflections
PICTURE RETAKES
Picture retakes will occur on October 7th. If you missed the first picture day, this is a great opportunity to get your picture taken. Besides having a picture for your grandparents, the school uses the photo for the yearbook, student id’s, and our school rewards system (Trading Post)
PTSA
Show your school spirit on Fridays! Wear your school shirt or hoodie (past or present) and get a treat at lunch! If you’ve ordered a school shirt on memberhub, you or your student can pick it up in the office. You can still buy school shirts in the office, order on memberhub https://wasatchjr.memberhub.com/store or buy at SEP’S.
RED RIBBON WEEK: A WEEK OF CONNECTION
Red Ribbon Week will be held the week of October 11-17. This year we’ll be doing things a bit differently and focusing on CONNECTION, the antidote to addition. The week will be filled with activities that help kids learn how to use compassion and empathy to make meaningful connections and how to change their thoughts and habits to build emotional resilience and foster inclusion.
If you would like to help out come to our next meeting held at the school on Thursday, Sept 30th at 10am or contact Saydi Shumway: saydria@gmail.com / 617-501-8761
DOCTORAL STUDY REQUEST
I am currently conducting a study to measure differences in students with and without ADHD symptomatology. We will be looking specifically at differences in the ways that these students learn and think about their own learning. This will be completed online via an automated Qualtrics survey, with an option of a follow-up Zoom interview (both should take no longer than 20 minutes and will be completed outside of school hours). Students will be entered to win 1 of 10 gift cards valued $25 dollars upon completion of the study. Please see attachment for more information.
Thank you very much for your time and help!
Best,
