Dear Parents and Students:
PARENT/TEACHER STUDENT LED CONFERENCES
Parent/ Teacher Conference will be held on September 20 & 21 from 4-7pm. They will be held in person except for the last hour on the first night (9/20 ) will be virtual. To sign up for a virtual time please login to this website: https://pickatime.com/GraniteSD/ Attached are instructions to help if needed.
We are moving to a different method for these evenings. First, we want you to attend with your student. This is very important as they will be discussing with you their RISE, Growth Measure Reading scores, class behavior and goals for the year. These are called Student Led Conferences (SLCs). Back to School night gave you an opportunity to meet with teachers and discuss expectations and procedures. On these evenings, we would like to focus on the students discussing their educational goals and results. Yes, these conversations could and do happen at home, but having them in a more formal setting may have more of an impact. Wasatch is focused on student growth and proficiency and believe these SLCs help students become more invested and accountable for their learning. Research supports these beliefs.
If you have a concern (more than a quick question) that needs to be discussed with the teacher, please email the teacher and set up a time with them. We understand there may be a few bumps and problems that evening, but we believe that by Spring Conferences we will have them fine-tuned and will create a better experience for all.

TRADING POST
At Wasatch as part of our positive behavior support program we have a “Trading Post”. Students receive “Wampum” currency for positive behaviors and are able to use it at the Trading Post. If you would like to donate to the Trading Post, we have a donation list at Amazon.com. Here is the link if you would like to participate: Wasatch Donation List https://a.co/1Yn4YK2
We can’t buy soda with district funds, so if we want it in the trading post we need to get it donated. If you’re willing to bring in soda for the trading post that would be helpful: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C094BA5AD28A6F85-soda
REALITY TOWN
Reality Town allows 8th graders to experience real life in a simulated environment. Students are given careers, jobs, families, and have to make budgeting and other decisions based on their paychecks and life situations. This valuable program requires about 70 volunteers! Volunteers play roles of car salesmen, bankers, grocers, etc. It’s a fun experience for both the students and adults; we welcome any volunteers–even if you don’t have an 8th grader. If you have questions, contact Heather Lowe (626)692-2009 or Elyse Hunter (801)201-9931. Please use this link to sign up to volunteer: Reality Town
Matilda Jr Musical Parent Information
Parents, we appreciate those of you who came to the parent meetings this week to get information on how the musical operates. One of the things we discussed was the necessity of parent volunteers. We ask at least 1 parent volunteer for a minimum of 5 hours to help make this show a success because we can’t do these shows every year without our amazing parent volunteers. Click on the link to sign up asap: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0844a8ac2fabf58-matilda. If you missed the meeting, a recording will be available next week on the website to view. A weekly email is sent out on Sunday nights to help keep you in the know about current musical information. So, if you did not attend the meeting this week, please email wasatchjrmusical@gmail.com to be added to the list.
This Tuesday Sept. 13th from 3-7pm we need parents, siblings, and any able bodies, to help us clean out set and props pieces in the sea crates, located in the back parking lot, to make room for emergency items for the school and community. We thank you in advance for helping us with this effort and signing up for other positions to assist us in keeping the tradition of great musicals at Wasatch.
