The School Community Council or Trust Lands Committee identifies critical academic needs for our school. We create and implement a plan and put in place the means to address each critical academic need. This is accomplished by managing School Trust Land funds. Somer Julio: Parent-Chair of the Council
My daughter is in Mrs. Rodriguez’s second grade dual immersion class. This is my second year serving as community council chair. I love serving on the community council and getting to know the school and staff while making some very important decisions for our school and students. I work full time as a licensed customs broker. Our family has lived in Utah since 2011. We’re originally from Los Angeles. We love Utah because of the friendly community and many outdoor adventures. During the spring and summer months you’ll probably find our family camping or on a weekend exploring adventure.
Kimberly Barlow: Parent
Happily married to my high school sweetheart, Mark. Mother of three children, twins who are 20 and attending school at BYU and a 5th grader in the dual immersion program. BA degree from the University of Utah. I enjoy substitute teaching and serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for the state of Utah.
Natalie Rodgers: Parent
I am grateful for my involvement with the West Kearns School Community Council and invite other parents to participate. (It’s only about one hour a month!) It is a wonderful opportunity to interact with other parents, teachers and administrators and be part of making important decisions for the school. I have lived in Kearns for 22 years and love it here. My husband teaches at Kearns High. Five of our six children have attended West Kearns. Our youngest child is in sixth grade. In college (a long time ago!), I studied human development & family studies and business administration.
Becky Watkins: Parent
I am happy to serve on the West Kearns community council again. I love the staff here at West Kearns! My amazing husband and I have lived here for over 20 years. My 8 children have all attended or are attending West Kearns. I have been involved at the school with PTA and other volunteer opportunities for the last 18 years. West Kearns is my 2nd home. I love to be involved in our school and community. My greatest joys are my family, being in the mountains, good music and laughing!
Celeste Santana: Employee-Vice Chair
Celeste Santana has been teaching for many years in bilingual and dual immersion programs in California and Utah. Most of her career she has taught 3rd and 4th grade but this year she is excited to be working in first grade. In addition to her love for bilingual education, she is passionate about gifted and talented education. She enjoys teaching at West Kearns Elementary and is grateful for all the support from parents and community that help make it such a great place to be.
Katy Timothy: Employee-Principal
I am so happy to be in my second year as the principal of West Kearns Elementary! This is my thirteenth year in education. I have taught first, third, and fifth grades as a teacher and have been an instructional coach. This is my fifth year in administration. I love participating in Community Council. It’s a wonderful time to help decide how to spend our Land Trust funding, share important information with parents, and get feedback on how we can improve. I invite any and all parents to attend our open meetings!
I feel fortunate every day to get to work with such amazing students, parents, teachers, and community members. I am happily married to my husband, Jason. We have four children, including a seven-year-old, five-year-old, and twins that are two-and-a-half. We also have a huge dog named Ella. In my spare time I enjoy gardening and playing guitar.
Dan Rubio: Parent
I’m a father of three, a son in first grade dual immersion class, a daughter in preschool, and a little boy not yet in school. I’m originally from Mexico, but I grew up in California. My wife is from the Dominican Republic, but we have been living in Utah for the last eight years, so we consider this state our home now. I work as a pipeline engineer for a natural gas company. I’m excited to serve in the Community Council to get involved in my children’s school and get to know other parents, teachers and staff. When not at work or doing church stuff, I enjoy traveling with the family or just relaxing at home watching TV.
