I don’t think we’re alone anymore…
What better way to validate this immortal movie phrase than an on-site visit from NASA,
and what better place to bring this presentation than the school by the Lake (Decker) and Wasatch Youth Centers?
Earlier this week, two members of the NASA Astrobiology team, Daniella Scalice and Jackie Gooridal, Ph.D., and Matt Whittaker and Skye Willard (University of Utah) posed that very question of life in the most unlikely places—on Earth and other planets.
Following a presentation on astrobiology, the students explored the possibilities of microbes existing in places like Mars, Enceladus (moon of Saturn), Europa and Titan (moons of Jupiter). Teams then selected one of these remote locations and designed an exploratory mission to discover whether or not microbes are indeed hanging out in the remote regions of our solar system.
The INSPIRE Program is a coordinated effort with Youth in Care, NASA and the University of Utah.
