Decker Lake Youth Center has a new program in place for some of their residents, One Heart. This is a collaboration between Juvenile Justice Services, Utah State Board of Education, Granite School District and Salt Lake Community College. SLCC has provided an instructor to teach the students the trade of framing. They meet twice a week for 6 hours and are taught by a seasoned and skilled craftsman the ins and outs of framing. Students are learning the terminology, techniques and skills needed to be a qualified framer as they construct sheds. The instructor had only words of praise and admiration for the students, their willingness to learn and their commitment to the program. He said that he would gladly hire any of the students upon their release, that finding qualified framers is a challenge and that there are many jobs available in the field. What an impressive program!
