NASA – STEM/CAP Activity
Write-up by Kath Nelson
The youth at Genesis, UNI GTC, and Decker Lake were treated to a special interactive STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) presentation by a NASA scientist! Dr. Dianna Scalise, the Director of Astrobiology Education at NASA, was hosted by Dr. Nalini Nankarni, of the University of Utah STEM/CAP group.
The focus of the activity was on the search for living things on other worlds. The youth simulated a complete project from research and development of a craft, to the engine delivery system, and onboard equipment used to detect signs of life.
The simulation was in the form of a board game. The game required the use of math to determine the best options for the project.
The participants really enjoyed the activity, and we are looking forward to our next adventure with STEM/CAP.
