Michelle Sanchez arranged for Heidi Schreck to do a writing workshop with the Gemstone girls at DSI/Gemstone. Heidi is an American playwright, screenwriter, and actress. She wrote and performed in What the Constitution Means to Me. Her play was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and also a finalist for the Tony Awards for 2019 Best Play and Best Actress in a Play.
Heidi introduced herself as a writer who often writes about her own life. She reports writing gives her life purpose, and also can be fun! She started the workshop by asking he girls to say their name, favorite dessert, and who you would want to play you in the movie of your life! She then went on to interact with the girls with other writing ideas. Heidi ended with a discussion about names, and fielded questions about the U.S. Constitution. The Gemstone girls did a great job interacting and writing!
