A celebration was held in the honor of two students at Decker Lake Youth Center who achieved their General Education Certificates from Utah Tech University.
Students worked hard to complete the requirements to receive their General Education Certificates. These two students at Decker Lake were the first to earn the General Education Certificate while incarcerated.
Remarks were given by Nathan Caplin – Director, Higher Education for Incarcerated Youth, Utah Tech University, Josh Keil – Supervisor at Decker Lake Youth Center, Alyssa Clark – Program Assistant HEIY, Utah Tech University, Kevin Simmons – Director of Concurrent Enrollment, Utah Tech University, and Lowry Snow J.D. – Utah House of Representatives.
Awards were given out to Professors who have taught in the program as well as to Educator Facilitators. Professors were Mollie Hosmer-Dillard, Lea Landaverde, and David Syndergaard. Founder award was given to House of Representative V. Lowry Snow.
Facilitator award was presented to Josh Keil and Tottie Sanchez. Josh and Tottie have helped to make this program at Decker Lake a success. Thanks all your effort in be half of our students. The Youth Educational Support School helps to fund the graduate program at Decker Lake Youth Center and Salt Lake Valley Detention Center.
