Hello Bonneville Family,
I want to extend a huge shout-out for an incredible Hello Week! Our student leaders, Peer Leadership class, advisors, and stage crew did an outstanding job engaging both students and staff throughout the week. From daily dress themes and lunchtime activities to a fantastic assembly, the energy and enthusiasm were palpable. We truly had a great time!
I am also thrilled to announce the return of Spanish 1 to our school, made possible by increased enrollment and additional funding from the State. As a former Spanish teacher at Bonneville, I deeply understand the importance of maintaining our World Language programs. We are excited to offer one period of Spanish 1 starting Tuesday, September 3rd, right after the Labor Day holiday. If you are interested in your student taking Spanish 1 (must be in 7th or 8th grade), please email your school counselor. Looking ahead, we will be offering a Chinese Beginning Course for all students (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) starting in the second semester. More information on this exciting opportunity will be shared in November and December.
Congratulations to our Cross-Country team on their first meet! The team will compete at Hunter this week and then return home on Tuesday, September 10th, to host the Granite School District Junior High Schools. A big thank you to Coach Tripp for her dedication to our students’ success both in the classroom and on the athletic field. Our Boys’ and Girls’ soccer teams are also hard at work, with their games kicking off on Monday, September 9th.
Please mark your calendars for our Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held on Tuesday, September 17th, and Wednesday, September 18th, from 4-7 pm both nights. Conferences will be held in person in the teachers’ individual classrooms. If you prefer a virtual meeting with your student’s teachers, please reach out via email to request this option, and our teachers will send you a virtual meeting link.
Lastly, I want to revisit the important topic I shared last week about the dangers of comparison among our students. This habit can deeply impact their self-esteem, as it often becomes a measure of their appearance, performance, and potential. Comparison is a pervasive influence on our kids’ opinions about almost everything, affecting every detail of their lives and guiding their choices. So, how can we help our kids understand the negative impact comparison can have on their mental health and well-being? It starts with developing awareness.
Encourage your child to notice when they are comparing themselves to others. This behavior is often automatic, so helping them recognize it is crucial. Comparison can distort their perspective, leading to a skewed view of themselves and their abilities. By teaching your teens to tune into their thoughts and catch themselves in the act of comparing, we can help them break free from this habit.
One practical step is to track how often they fall into the comparison trap. Logging these instances can help make them aware of the frequency and start the conversation about how to change this pattern. Journaling can also be a powerful tool in this process. For more insights, I recommend visiting Parenting Teens & Tweens.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community. We look forward to another amazing week at Bonneville!
I love ALL our Vikings!
Mr./Señor Bailey

Personal Electronic Device Policy – In accordance with the Granite School District’s personal electronic device policy, all personal electronic devices are not to be seen from the 1st bell to the last bell of the day. To ensure that we can fully focus on learning, personal electronic devices will not be allowed during the school day. We believe this policy will help create a more focused and productive environment for everyone. Students are not required to bring a personal electronic device to school and Bonneville Jr High is not liable for lost or stolen items. If you choose to bring a device to school, please keep it in your backpack or locker on silent. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Bonneville Jr High will allow students to use their personal electronic device during their lunch period in the cafeteria or courtyard. Once lunch has concluded, students are to place their device either in their locker or backpack on silent. Students who wear a smart watch can wear this device during the school day as long as it does not become a mode of communication.
Cell phones are not permitted in restrooms on campus. If policy is not followed, then students may have their phone turned into the main office and a parent may be required to pick up the phone.
