It is essential that students attend school. Students with ten or more unexcused absences will be referred to truancy court. Granite Park Junior High School can only accept seven parent-excused absences during a school year.
For those students reported sluffing, the police will be contacted and the parent/guardian will be contacted. The student will be suspended until a parent conference. When parents cannot be reached, students will be referred to the school officer.
Students that arrive late must check-in with the attendance office. The tardy may be excused by note or by parent contact. The student will then be sent to class with a note from the attendance secretary. All student share five minutes passing time between each class. the attendance dean will contact the parents of students with chronic tardy problems.
The 1st tardy will be a warning. The 2nd tardy will result in a lunch detention. Upon receiving a 3rd tardy, parents will be contacted and students will be required to serve another lunch detention. Should a student receive a 4th, 5th, or 6th tardy, they will receive an ASD (after school detention) to make up the time and work. Further tardies will require additional ASD. Continued excessive tardiness may result in student suspension or referral to the Court Tracker.
