It is essential that students attend school. Students with ten or more unexcused absences will be referred to truancy court. Granite Park Junior High School can only accept seven parent-excused absences during a school year.
For those students reported sluffing, the police will be contacted and the parent/guardian will be contacted. The student will be suspended until a parent conference. When parents cannot be reached, students will be referred to the school officer.
Students that arrive late must check-in with the attendance office. The tardy may be excused by note or by parent contact. The student will then be sent to class with a note from the attendance secretary. All student share five minutes passing time between each class. the attendance dean will contact the parents of students with chronic tardy problems.
The 1st tardy will be a warning. The 2nd tardy will result in a call home to parents. Upon receiving a 3rd tardy, parents will be required to come to school to meet and sign a contract. Should a student receive a 4th, 5th or 6th tardy, they will be required to do a 45 minute ASD (after school detention) to make up the time and work. 7th, 8th and 9th tardies will be assigned a 1.5 hour ASD. On the 10th tardy the student will be suspended, and referred to the Court Tracker. Any tardy after the 10th will result in a 2.5 hour ASD.
