I have been working for Granite School District for the last 26 years as a sweeper, paraprofessional, and teacher. I love my students and feel privileged to be their teacher. I love children with disabilities because they are so much fun. When I’m not at Truman, I love reading, family, hanging out with friends, going to movies, and my dog Star. I love the African culture and events from my days as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Côte d’Ivoire.

I grew up in Kearns, graduating from Kearns High School. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and ESL and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Utah. I taught Spanish and ESL for five years in Tooele School District before receiving my administrative license from Utah State University. I’ve been an administrator in Granite School District for the last five years and have loved it. I am married and have four daughters, ranging from 12 to four years old. Obviously, they take all my free time and I love it! I love to read, especially fantasy. I also love to spend time outside, four-wheeling, camping, and sports (e.g. basketball and volleyball). I’m so excited to come and be a part of Truman! I look forward to getting to know and working with all of you. I love coming to work and being with so many students, parents, and staff members, all working together to make a difference in the life of each child. It’s inspiring!

I have three great loves in my life.  My family, my job, and Utah football!  I have worked in Special Education since 1991.  After 17 years the fabulous Ana Hafford talked me into getting my college degree.  I graduated from Utah State in 2013, it was one of the best things I have ever done.  I love my job; my students make me smile every day.  My family is an amazing support for me and they are the coolest people to hang out with. Most of all I love working at Truman; we have an amazing team here!

I was born and raised in the Panama Canal zone.  I spent many wonderful hours in the jungles and beautiful beaches.  After graduating from high school, I attended Rick’s College and graduated from BYU.  I have a wonderful family: 6 children and 7 grandchildren.  I love music and enjoy singing with my quartet and Sterling Singers.  I enjoy hiking and backpacking.  I love my job as a teacher (most days) and love teaching children.

I have been a Speech Language Pathologist for 18 years. I did my undergraduate degree in psychology and then after working at the Children’s Center for a number of years found my true calling in speech pathology. I got my Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Utah. This will be my 14th year here at Truman. When I am not working I am generally spending time with my family. I have 3 amazing children, ages 10, 18, and 24. We love to travel and camp in our trailer.  I am an avid reader and love to escape into a great book. I love working with children and can’t imagine doing anything else.  Every day students make me smile with their energy and enthusiasm.

Social Worker

I first joined Granite District as a Playworks Coach in 2014, where I had the opportunity to teach students social skills through play at recess.  I found so much joy working in the elementary schools, that I decided to pursue a Masters in Social Work through the University of Utah to return to Granite District as a School Social Worker.  I absolutely love working with students to help support their emotional growth and resiliency!  I believe every kid has the ability to overcome challenges, resolve conflicts, and learn skills to help them succeed in school. Outside of work, I love to spend time with my partner and our three cats, go hiking, listen to music, and make art!

I love kids!  I have been a school psychologist for Granite School District for over 15 years working with children with various neurological and cognitive disorders, as well as emotional and behavioral issues.  I enjoy working with teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve problems, big and small.  It is very rewarding to watch children change and grow and to be an integral part of that process.
When I’m not spending my time with the students here at Granite School District, you can find me hiking, reading books, or playing the X-box with my own three kiddos or snuggled in the papasan with the latest copy of the New Yorker.

Special Education grades 1/2
I have been teaching in special education since 1988.  I have two boys, and I am married.  I enjoy swimming, being with friends, and watching movies.  I love animals of all kinds and will always have at least one dog and one cat at my house.  My teaching career has been a wonderful experience, and I just think the best part is the kids.  They are so fun, and they make me laugh every day.

For as long as I can remember the answer to “what do you want to be when you grow up?” was always “I want to be a teacher”. Now that I have reached that goal my answer is I want to be remembered. I want to be remembered by my students as someone who encouraged them to go after their goals and their cheerleader after they reached their goal. I want to be remembered by the parents of my students as their partner in crime when it comes to their student’s education. I want to be one of the teachers who goes into the hall of fame of my students’ minds.

I love to teach Kindergarten!  I love the unique perspective that 5 and 6 year students have on life and how eager they are to learn and grow.  I love to read and share books with my students. I also love to discover the world through the eyes of my students during science. I am eager to incorporate new ideas and technologies.  I hope you and your child will enjoy this year of school as we let our minds “bloom” together. When I am not teaching or planning for Kindergarten I like to read a good book, play word games on my phone, watch some HGTV, and spend time with my family which consists of my husband, three daughters, two dogs, and lots of extended family.

I was born and raised in the Upstate of South Carolina, where I developed a love of art during my time in elementary school.  When I began attending college, I chose to make education my career, and I made the decision to teach a subject that I loved - one that I could get excited about teaching every day.  Visual arts was the obvious choice.  I graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education K-12 from the University of South Carolina at the end of 2016, and moved to Utah the same week.  I've been teaching with the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program in Granite School District for the past two years.  I am very excited to start creating and learning with the students at Truman Elementary School this year.  Outside of school you can find me spending time with my lovely wife and two adorable dogs, working on my own creative projects, or out hiking and backpacking in the beautiful Utah wilderness.

I graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education. My life through school has given me personal experience to assist me in teaching different learners that will be in our class. I will be able to connect with all students and provide different ways to understand a concept. Besides my love for teaching, I love spending time with my family and the outdoors. I love to go camping, fourwheeling, traveling and boating. I’m looking forward to working with your student this year! I will come prepared ready to teach, I’m hoping your student will be prepared to learn. Students will be provided with a postive, safe classroom environment for them to learn and respect others. As a class we will learn together and learn from each other. Let us all be READY TO LEARN!
