Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
At Bonneville Junior High, our teachers work together in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). A PLC is a team of educators who regularly meet to share ideas, review student learning, and plan ways to improve instruction. Through this collaboration, we ensure that every student has the best opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
PLCs support our mission by helping us focus on academic improvement, strengthening our sense of community, and fostering a passion for lifelong learning. They also align with our vision of preparing students for their future—building both academic skills and self-confidence so students leave Bonneville ready for high school and beyond.

Text description of the PLC cycle diagram
The flowchart is titled “PLC CYCLE” (Professional Learning Communities cycle). It shows a continuous six-step circular process for instructional improvement. Each step is in a rounded rectangle, connected by black arrows that point clockwise. The title appears at the top center in bold purple type inside a rectangular box. A Bonneville-style logo (yellow circle with a purple lowercase “b”) appears in the bottom right corner. The graphic has a light gray border.
Steps in the cycle (clockwise)
- Reflect – Examine Effectiveness (black box, white text). (All students move on to the next essential standard while getting additional support on prior standards if needed.)
- Unwrap Standards (white box, black text). (Get Insanely Clear on Your Essential Learning Outcomes.) Connecting question before the next step: What do we want all students to know and be able to do?
- Design Common Formative Assessments (light gray box, black text). Connecting question before the next step: How will we know if they learn it?
- Plan Effective Tier 1 Instruction (light purple box, black text). (Include Continuous Checks for Understanding.)
- Analyze Assessment Data (medium purple box, black text). (Identify “Who Got It” and Who Didn’t Get It.) Connecting question before the next step: How will we respond when some students do not learn it?
- Plan Tier 2 Instruction (dark gray box, white text). (Provide Additional Time & Support and Extensions.) Connecting question before the cycle returns to reflection: How will we extend the learning for students who are proficient?
