First Generation Student Resources

  • Check out Cottonwood’s College Access Resource Database (Google Document).

Disability Resources

  • Check out Disability Support Options By School (Google Document) to learn more about what each institution in Utah offers to accommodate students with disabilities.
  • Apply for Accommodations at the institution you’re planning to attend
    • e.g. U of U Center for Disability Services > after you apply, go to this site and select “New Student Intake”
    • You will need some kind of documentation including a letter from a psychologist or doctor, a 504 plan or IEP, or other verification for your required accommodations
    • Common diagnoses for accommodations are: ADHD, Visual Impairments/Blindness, Chronic Illness, Deaf or Hard of Hearing, learning disabilities, and more

DACA/Undocumented Student Resources

There is much misinformation about undocumented students and higher education. Most importantly, students should know that undocumented students, with and without Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), can attend college in Utah! All students, regardless of their immigration status, are eligible for admission to any accredited college or university in Utah, whether public or private.

    • Informed Immigrant – Applying to College as an Undocumented Student
    • Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities – Student Resources for DACA/Dreamers
    • Higher Ed Immigration Portal – Higher Ed for Immigrants by State
  • Scholarships: while government identification in the form of a Social Security Number or A-Number is a requirement to receive state and federal aid, Utah high school graduates do not need to provide proof of citizenship to qualify for privately funded scholarships.
    • Immigrants Rising and the Immigrants Tab of Granite Scholarships (Google Spreadsheet) includes scholarships for immigrant (undocumented, DACA, non-FAFSA-eligible, etc.) students.
  • In-State Tuition Waiver
    • Utah’s House Bill 144, passed in 2002, allows qualifying undocumented and DACAmented high school graduates to pay in-state tuition rates if they attend a Utah public college or university.
    • To qualify, students must have attended a Utah high school for 3+ years, graduated or earned a GED in Utah, and submit an affidavit stating they will adjust their immigration status as soon as eligible.
    • SLCC Summer semester is also always the in-state rate. Taking classes at SLCC in the summer is more affordable for students who do not qualify for in-state tuition normally.
  • FAFSA Eligibility
    • FAFSA Eligibility for Non-U.S. Citizens
