New Assistant Boys Soccer Coach
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Sterling “Sage” Pemberton as the new Assistant Coach for the Boys Soccer program at Cottonwood High School. Sage brings a wealth of experience, holding a USSF D License and a strong background in both playing and coaching at competitive levels. As a former player at Riverton High School and captain of the varsity soccer team at Western Nebraska Community College, Sage has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to the sport. Currently, Sage coaches multiple age groups at the Avalanche Soccer Club in Midvale, where he has made a significant impact over the past four years. The boys wrestling team battled strong at The Gauntlet Tournament at Olympus High School over the weekend with Rico Ruiz placing 2nd, Levi Lai placing 4th, James Thompson placing 3rd, and Anthony Perez taking 2nd place in their divisions. Also, Jaxton Danner having won 6 of his 9 matches in the Varsity Division took 4th place! Mandatory Graduation Practice – May 27, 7:30 AM in the CHS Auditorium
Seniors, there is a mandatory graduation practice on Tuesday, May 27th, at 7:30 a.m. in the auditorium. In this practice, seniors will learn all the details of the graduation ceremony and what to expect the day of. Do not wear your cap and gown to graduation practice – those are only to be worn at graduation or when taking personal pictures. Please refer to the graduation information sheet included in your cap and gown bag; a handout with more specifics (in English and in Spanish) will be given out at the graduation practice as well. If you have questions or concerns about the actual graduation ceremony or day of graduation itself, please email your counselor and she can answer anything you need. Hello Fabulous SECONDARY FAMILIES! Are you looking for a fun way to encourage your middle school or high school child’s reading this summer? Look no further – we have created the summer resource for you! How does it work? This Summer Learning website has links to learning activities that your secondary child can do daily throughout the summer. The idea is for your teen to read daily (Bingo) for 30 minutes, work on vocabulary (Free Rice) for 5 minutes, and work on comprehension (Reading Theory) for 5-10 minutes. Next, they can choose an online math activity below to practice math for 10-15 min. Lastly, you’ll find science videos, articles, and/or lessons for them to explore each week. Kindness Week Explanation VIDEO LINK: Tori explains everything in the video. Kindness Color-In Poster: There is a large poster with a bunch of squares on it hung in the main entrance. Each act of kindness done from THIS LIST, counts for coloring in a single square. The first school to complete their poster gets a treat from the District. Student Government will give papers to Homeroom teachers to give to their students that are interested. The papers will have the list of kindness acts as well as THESE INSTRUCTIONS. Cottonwood’s Kindness Paper Chain: Cottonwood will be making a kindness chain with strips of paper. Teachers will be given some colored paper to cut strips of paper for the chain. Summer Academy at SLCC – For 10th and 11th graders
What is Concurrent Enrollment (CE) Summer Academy? CE Summer Academy is an opportunity for high school students to take a concurrent enrollment class on a SLCC Campus during the summer. Priority is given to students who are the first person in their families to attend college. Students who participate in CE Summer Academy will also be given opportunities to mingle with other Summer Academy Students and will participate in activities to help them get to know the SLCC culture and student services. Students who successfully complete their classes will have college credit awarded on their SLCC college transcript. Baseball Tryouts – February 24th.
With the arrival of Spring weather, the best sport in the world is about to ramp back up! Baseball tryouts will be held on Monday February 24th at the Baseball Field and Facility. Please make sure you have completed your “Register My Athlete” information on the website and that you bring a copy of your 2nd Quarter grades. Tryouts will go from 2:30-4:30 that day. If you’d like to come and workout with the team leading up to tryouts, we are practicing daily at the baseball facility from about 2:30-5:00. Colts Wrestling Success
A message from Coach Kahn! – Congratulations to the Colts wrestling team for a strong performance against Murray High School this past Thursday. It was senior night and our seniors certainly did not disappoint. Seniors Christina Paluzzi, Cora Wood, Isabelle Kasteler, Klasina Duckworth, and Quinn Lehigh were all victorious in their matches. Great job Seniors! The season is ramping up towards Region and State Competition and Quinn Lehigh who has 13 wins with only 2 losses is certainly one to watch. Let’s go Colts!
FAFSA Help Night is tonight 4-7pm
Seniors and their students/parents tonight is the night! Please attend our FAFSA night. This is to help students access grant money for technical schools, 2-year colleges, and 4-year universities. If you have not already signed up for your FSA ID, please come tonight and we can help you get started. For everyone with an FSA ID, we have a number of professionals ready to help you complete the application. This is an important step to finding money to help pay for college, specifically grant money that does not need to be repaid, work-study opportunities, and access to a number of scholarships and federal loans. The Open House is in the library from 4-7 pm. Everyone who participates will receive a free two-taco plate from Salsa’s Catering.
CTE Open House – Thursday January 23rd
Granite School District Career and Technical Education will be holding its Open House on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Granite Technical Institute (2500 South State Street) from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
