Students of Rolling Meadows kicked off the St. Patrick’s Day weekend on Friday, March 14, when Irish dancers and a bagpiper came for a visit!
The assembly started with a visitor from the Salt Lake Scots Pipe & Drum Band. He explained the ins and outs of a bagpipe and played traditional Scottish and Irish tunes. The students enjoyed asking questions about his traditional Highland dress that consisted of a kilt, sporran, Glengarry hat, and a sgian dubh.
Students of the Scariff Hardman School of Irish Dance performed different styles of Irish step-dancing. An instructor answered the students’ questions about “soft shoes” vs. “real shoes,” why Irish dancers keep their arms down, and explained the different styles of outfits worn by the dancers.
It was a wonderful experience for the students at Rolling Meadows!
