Dear Rolling Meadows Elementary Parents and Families,
The Granite School District would like to remind you that the Reunification Drill for students and families at Rolling Meadows Elementary will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
Reunification is the process by which parents/guardians pick up their students from the school or a designated evacuation site due to an emergency situation preventing normal dismissal. This drill will help Rolling Meadows, Granite School District, and first responders evaluate the reunification process and make improvements if necessary.
The drill will take place at the school, and you will need to pick up your student before the usual scheduled end time of 3:45 p.m. If you need to check out your student for a prior obligation, please do so before 12:30 p.m. Accommodations will be made for students who are not participating in the reunification drill, as well as for students who ride the bus home. However, we highly encourage all families to participate in the reunification drill if at all possible.
The principal will announce a reunification protocol Wednesday afternoon. Following the announcement, school staff will begin setting up for the reunification process. Once everything is in place, you will receive a notification that your student(s) will need to be picked up from school. PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SCHOOL UNTIL YOU ARE NOTIFIED TO DO SO.
Personnel from Granite Police, West Valley City Fire, and other entities will be on site assisting and evaluating. As such, traffic flow and parking near the school will be impacted. You will not be able to stop or park along Whitehall Drive at the south end of the school as this road will need to remain unobstructed for emergency personnel and traffic flow. In compliance with ADA laws and policies, handicap parking will be available in front of the school for those who need assistance or special accommodations.
Please walk to the school to pick up your child, if at all possible. Families will be able to park in the LDS Church parking lot to the west of the school (3150 Whitehall Dr). Maps have been provided with this message to assist with parking and student pick-up logistics.
When you arrive at the school, please follow the directions of school staff and emergency personnel who will direct you to the check-in stations. BRING A PHOTO I.D. Students will only be checked out to parents and legal guardians listed on file at the school. Once you pick up your student, they are considered released from school for the day and should go home with you.
We appreciate your help and support as we work to keep our students safe. An effective drill will help parents and students understand the reunification process and avoid unnecessary confusion during an emergency situation.
Sincerely,
Granite School District
