Last week, the Children's Literature Association of Utah (CLAU) announced the winners of the 2022 Beehive Book Awards. If you've visited our library, you know we spend all year reading and talking about these books. I read all of the picture book nominees to the kids and many of them read books in the other categories. We always vote as classes on the picture books and students can vote individually on any Beehive Book they read. After ...
Week of 5/9
This is our last week checking out books from the library - I can't believe the year is almost over! And May is also Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, so I thought I would read a couple of books that fit this month. Both books help students appreciate the experiences of Asian Americans - their heritage, their desire to fit into American culture, and the insensitivity they sometimes face. Grades K-3 will hear the first story ...

Week of 4/18
To celebrate Earth Day on Friday, April 22, we are reading this adorable book Milk and Juice: A recycling Romance by Meredith Crandall Brown. "Once upon a time, in a refrigerator not too far away, a jug of milk and a bottle of juice fell in love." But one day, juice was taken away to be recycled. Can they ever find each other again? Both milk and juice go around the planet in many different recycled forms, always searching for each other. ...

This cookie has never felt smart before, especially when compared to all the beautiful cupcakes and rolls in the bakery. But when Ms. Biscotti gives everyone a homework assignment, cookie decides to write an original poem called "My Crumby Days." Will it be good enough for everyone else? Will Cookie have friends after she reads it out loud to her class? Jory John and Pete Oswald have added another fun addition to their wildly popular series, ...
Donation Drive
Dear Parents and Friends of Upland Terrace: In years past, we have had a Jog-A-Thon to raise money for teachers to get supplies for their classrooms and do fun activities with their students. COVID and other factors put a stop to that fundraiser for the last few years, and those funds have been significantly diminished. We are therefore hosting a Donation Drive to replenish those accounts so our teachers can once again get the supplies ...
Week of 3/28
This has been a fun year of reading all the picture books nominated for the Beehive Book Award, an award where kids get to vote on kids books. We've now voted on all 10 books and as crazy as it is, both of these books tied with 317 thumbs-up votes! (I counted many times to make sure!) So this week we are having a tie-breaker vote. Each class gets to vote again on which book they like the most. We're all looking forward to seeing who wins this ...
