YouScience: Discover Your Strengths & Explore Your Future
What Is YouScience?
Ever wondered what careers might be a great fit for you? YouScience is an online career exploration tool that helps students discover their interests, identify their natural strengths (called aptitudes), and explore careers that align with both.
Through a series of engaging activities and assessments, YouScience provides personalized, research-backed insights into how students think, solve problems, and approach different types of tasks. It then connects those strengths and interests to potential career opportunities.
Here’s the best part: YouScience isn’t a test you pass or fail, and it doesn’t tell you what career you have to pursue. Instead, it helps you discover possibilities, including careers you may never have considered before!

Interests vs. Aptitudes: What’s the Difference?
One of the things that makes YouScience unique is that it looks at both what you enjoy and what you’re naturally good at. These aren’t always the same thing!
Your Interests
What do you enjoy?
Interests are the subjects, activities, and experiences that capture your attention and make you excited to learn more.
For example, you might love working with animals, designing things, helping people, solving puzzles, or learning about technology.
Your Aptitudes
What are your natural strengths?
Aptitudes are abilities and ways of thinking that may come naturally to you, even if you haven’t had much experience using them yet.
For example, you might have strengths in recognizing patterns, visualizing objects, working with numbers, generating ideas, or solving complex problems.
Sometimes your interests and aptitudes line up perfectly. Other times, YouScience may reveal strengths you didn’t even realize you had! Understanding both can help you discover new possibilities and make more informed decisions about your future.
How We Use YouScience in Freshman Success
At Skyline High School, career exploration starts early! Our Career Center team visits Freshman Success classes to help ninth-grade students begin exploring their strengths, interests, and future career possibilities.
During these visits, students are introduced to YouScience and learn how their personal results can connect to real-world careers.
We also return for a follow-up lesson focused on Career & Technical Education (CTE) Pathways. Students learn about the different pathways available at Skyline and the Granite Technical Institute (GTI), explore how their strengths connect to those pathways, and begin creating a plan for high school classes they may want to take.
Revisit Our Freshman Success Activity
Want to review what we discussed in class? Students and families can revisit our CTE pathway exploration activity to learn more about available pathways and how to plan future classes.
What Can You Do with Your YouScience Results?
Your YouScience results are more than just a list of careers! They can help you make decisions about classes, explore opportunities, and plan for life after high school.
Choose High School Classes
Use your results to discover electives and CTE courses that connect with your strengths and interests. High school is a great time to try something new!
Explore CTE Pathways
Discover pathways that align with careers you’re curious about. By taking related CTE classes, you can build skills and work toward becoming a CTE Pathway Completer.
Discover New Careers
Explore career matches based on your personal interests and aptitudes. You may find exciting career options you’ve never heard of before!
Try Hands-On Career Classes
Interested in exploring a career field more deeply? The Granite Technical Institute (GTI) offers specialized, hands-on programs in a variety of career areas.
Remember: You don’t have to decide on a career right now! Your interests may change as you grow, and that’s completely normal. YouScience is a starting point for exploring possibilities, not a final decision about your future.
For Parents & Families
Parents and guardians play an important role in helping students explore their futures. We encourage families to take a few minutes to sit down together, log in to YouScience, and explore their student’s results.
YouScience can be a great conversation starter about strengths, interests, and possible career directions. You might even learn something new about your student!
Conversation Starters
Not sure where to begin? Here are a few questions to ask your student:
- What did you learn about yourself from YouScience?
- Which of your results surprised you the most?
- Did YouScience suggest any careers you hadn’t considered before?
- Which of your strengths do you recognize in yourself?
- Are there any CTE classes or pathways you’d like to explore?
- What is one new thing you’d like to try during high school?
We also encourage families to talk with their student about the CTE pathway plan they created in Freshman Success. This is a great opportunity to discuss upcoming class choices and explore ways to connect high school experiences with future goals.
Keep Exploring Throughout High School
YouScience isn’t something you use once and forget about. Students can return to their results throughout high school as they discover new interests, choose classes, consider college programs, and explore career options.
Whether you’re a freshman just beginning to explore or a senior making plans after graduation, your YouScience results can be a helpful resource as you think about your next steps.
