AVID is a college preparation program that we offer at Granite Park Jr. High. This elective class helps provide students with the skills they need to be prepared for the rigor of high school and beyond. Granite Park is the only AVID Demonstration school in the of Utah. Here is an example of student expectations in the AVID Elective class:
All students at Granite Park can expect to be participate in WICOR strategies in each class, every day. These strategies are designed to help students become more engaged in the learning process which will translate into more academic success.

Writing – Focused Note-Taking Process, Learning Logs
Inquiry – Essential Questions, Costa’s Levels of Thinking, AVID Tutorials, Socratic Seminars
Collaboration – 30-Second Expert, Philosophical Chairs
Organization – Binders, Planners
Reading – Marking the Text, GIST
