Dear parents,
I hope it is appropriate to do so, but I wanted to take a minute and well… brag about the great things going on at Granite Park Junior High School–your school. We have had a great start to the year and appreciate our staff, teachers, students, and you as parents for the support you provide for your student.
This week I was able to participate in a Family and Community Engagement training with other schools from around the valley. We presented the work our parent center does, and all other schools were eager to learn more of the great work taking place at Granite Park. We are so fortunate to have this hub of resources. I hope we are all taking advantage of this great opportunity.
Similarly, Granite Park is hosting all other junior high school principals and assistant principals this week in a workshop. They are interested to learn how we can produce such excellent video announcements, how we create high-quality, student centered content such as our planners, and how we can provide such positive supports to our students. It is wonderful to receive such positive attention, and I want to deflect that back to the amazing teachers, staff, and students here. If you haven’t already done so, please subscribe to our school’s YouTube channel to see daily videos about what is going on in the school. We also have a highly-engaging Twitter feed to follow @graniteparkjhs.
Lastly, I want to relate a shoutout our state superintendent Syd Dickson gave our school over the summer. In front of principals in the State of Utah at our annual training in Park City, she praised the great things our school is doing–how we are able to leverage our diversity and provide great opportunities for students to succeed.
In short, I want you and your students to know of the great things taking place here. But… we can always do better. Parents, we need your voices in our Community Council, our PTSA, and in other ways. Please consider taking part in our parent advocacy groups. Community Council meets once a month on Fridays for an hour–its first meeting is this Friday September 20th at 2:00. PTSA meetings are also once a month with variable meeting dates. Please email me at awilson@graniteschools.org for more information.
Don’t forget:
-This Saturday is our student service project. Flyers will be sent home this week through den classes. Buses will pick students up (if they live in busing areas–route provided on flyer). Check-in starts at 8:30, lunch is at 11:30, busing home leaves at noon. Community Service Flyer
-Parent teacher conferences are next week on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:00-7:00. Stop by the cafeteria for a grilled hot dog and visit our PTSA table!
-Picture day is Wednesday September 25th.
Have a great week!
