Welcome to the new School Year
Our school is excited for the new school year to begin on Monday, August 16th. Our staff has worked hard this summer to prepare for the new school year. Our focus will continue to be implementing policies and procedures designed to keep students and staff safe. Our faculty cares about the academic and social-emotional success of your students and we are committed to providing all students with the education they deserve.
COVID Mitigation Steps
Our priority is to make school a safe place for teachers, staff, and students. Here are our COVID mitigation steps we are going to be taking this school year. We will continue to implement the 5Ws like we did last year.
1. Wear you mask (we strongly encourage all students to wear a face mask each day)
2. Watch your symptoms (stay home if you are sick. Contact your teachers to get your work)
3. Watch your distance (social distance when you can)
4. Wash/sanitize your hands and workspace (we will provide supplies needed to accomplish this)
5. Walk the Arrows (follow established walking paths and no congregating in halls in groups)
More information about state K-12 school COVID recommendations can be found here: COVID Info. Please contact the school if you have specific questions relating to COVID.
6th Grade Orientation Day
We are excited to offer an opportunity for all incoming 6th graders to have a half day orientation to meet teachers and learn how to navigate the school while learning about policies and procedures that will make their experience here easier and more enjoyable. Our 6th Grade Day will be held on Friday, August 13th from 7:45 -11:45 am. Buses will be provided and will pick up/return following our normal bus schedule (a copy can be found on our website). We will also be providing students with lunch before they return home. We hope to see every 6th grader at orientation and don’t forget, the first day of school for all students will be Monday, August 16th.
Electronic devices
All students at Granite Park Jr. are provided with a Chromebook, charger, headphones and a carrying case. Students need to bring these items to school to school each day (please make sure Chromebooks are charged). Bringing other electronic devices are not allowed at school. Items such as cell phones, IPODs, Ipads, or any other electronic games or devices will be confiscated if seen at school. If items are confiscated, a parent will be required to pick up the item from the school. Additionally, if items are brought to school, it is at your own risk. The school will not be held responsible to locate or replace these items if lost or stolen.
School lockers, backpacks, and lunches
All students at Granite Park will be provided with a binder and a planner. Starting the 1st week of September, backpacks will no longer be allowed. The binders given to students are large enough for students to bring the items they need to be successful in school. Our school will not be providing lockers this for students to help mitigate COVID. If your student needs a locker due to special circumstances, please contact the school so we can make arrangements for students to get a locker.
All students at Granite Park will receive free breakfast and lunch each day. Since we do not allow backpacks or lockers, we have a system in place where we collect home lunches for students and put them in a secure fridge until it is time for lunch. Students who bring home lunches to school will need to drop off their lunches before school in the cafeteria.
