First Week of School
We had a great 1st week of school; it was great to see our students again. This place gets really boring in the summer when we don’t have kids to interact with. Our students did such a great job this week learning their schedules and how to navigate our school. We look forward to many more productive and exciting weeks this school year.
Hot Dog Hello
We had our 1st Hot Dog Hello this week which was an opportunity for students to pick up their schedules, meet teachers, and tour our building. We had around 700 students and family attend this event which was higher than we anticipated. This event along with our 6th grade Orientation were highly attended by students and their families.
As a result of the large turnout for these events, we are going to cancel our scheduled Back to School Night on August 24th for the sake of not being redundant. We would like to instead invite all parents and students to our Parent Teacher Conferences that will be held on September 20th and 21st from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. We will incorporate Back to School Night events into our fall PTC so important information and opportunities aren’t missed.
I also want to provide you with more info relating to a new monthly community opportunity we will be offering each month call Parent University. In this program we will be providing Granite Park families with learning opportunities to help understand our school and systems more. We will also provide opportunities for parents to learn more about how they can have a more positive impact on their student’s success in school.
These events will occur the last Thursday of each month starting in September. Our first topics will include information relating to the new FOCUS app and organization skills at school (binders, planners, and routines).
We will be providing more information in the upcoming weeks, but we wanted to share this opportunity with you.
Entering our school
If you have accessed our school lately you have seen that our school now has a Security Doorbell system in place to help limit access into our school. Please watch the attached video clip that explains the Doorbell process: Doorbell Instructions v2.mp4
FOCUS Community App
This school year, our district changed their Gradebook system. Our new system is called FOCUS. To help parents and students keep up-to-date on student attendance and academic progress, FOCUS has a App for phones.

Please use the app for student and school related information that will help our students be more successful.
Lockers, Backpacks and Lunches
We have started reviewing our school expectations with students this week. Our goal is to keep students safe and engaged while in school. If you would like to review our school expectations that we present to students each day, please watch our daily announcements found on our website.
As you all know, students at Granite Park are provided with the learning tools they need to be successful in school. This includes a binder, a planner, and school supplies. Our binders are big enough to fit all needed school items and provides some extra room for personal items students may need to access throughout the day to maximize their learning experience. Any item that isn’t needed for educational purposes, we ask that students do not bring to school as these items have the potential to cause safety issues and impact student engagement in a negative way.
Initially, information was sent to parents that we would institute a no bag policy starting the first week of September, but we will institute this policy starting August 21st. What this means is that students will not be allowed to have bags (backpacks or personal bags) starting next week. We apologize for the change of date and the late notice. We have been reminding students this week of the upcoming change we have been impressed by their response.
If your student needs a locker this year, please contact the school so we can make arrangements for your student to get a locker and discuss locker responsibilities.
Fee Waiver applications are due on or before Friday, October 28, 2023.
To qualify for fee waiver, you need to bring in documentation that your student receives ONE of the following:
SSI OR Aid to families with dependent children OR Foster Care
If you do not qualify for a fee waiver using the options above, you will need to provided wage documentation using one of the following:
1. 2022 Tax Returns
2. 2 most recent pay stubs
3. Proof of state assistance (your case number)
*If you need help, please contact the school so we can help.
Access to School Breakfast and Lunch
Granite Park is a 100% free lunch school for all students. This means that all students who attend our school receive access to a free breakfast and a free lunch every day. Even though our school has received this grant, the state of Utah would still like parents to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch application for data purposes.
