Dear Parents and Students,
CONNECTION WEEK/RED RIBBON WEEK
OJH Parents! September 25th – 29th is our Red Ribbon/Connection Week! This will be the 5th year we will use Red Ribbon Week to focus on the power of Connection! Every year new research continues to confirm that connection is key to preventing addiction and is vital to our children’s emotional, mental, and physical well-being. It is amazing to watch teens become empowered with skills and knowledge as they step beyond simply knowing what they SHOULDN’T do when it comes to addictive pathways, and instead, learn what they CAN DO to cope with difficult feelings in healthy ways and prevent addiction.
This year our daily themes (which include videos and student-led interventions) will provide education about the following topics: inclusion, belonging, how to make meaningful connections by tapping into social superpowers, how they can protect themselves and others from the harms of social media, how to build resiliency, and how service can create positive connections within their community.
See the attached calendar for themes and lunch activities. Our Connection Week requires a large number of parent volunteers for it to be successful. It’s a great opportunity for you to be involved with kids at the school, create your own connections with our student body, and make them feel seen and special. Please see the link below to our sign up genius and sign up to help! You can purchase supplies, assist with lunch activities, or help decorate the school. There are two pages of volunteer opportunities for this week and we need you!
If you have questions about any of the volunteer opportunities, the content of the week, or would like to donate to PTA to help our budget for RRW, please reach out to Catherine Arveseth at cath.arveseth@gmail.com. 571-643-2003. Thank you!!
