Dear Parents and Students,
OLYMPUS JR. OPEN HOUSE
On January 10th 6-8pm, Olympus Jr. High will be holding an open house for all new incoming students for the 2024-25 school year. This night is an opportunity to meet the teachers, counselors and administration, tour the school, see the clubs and performing opportunities for students at OJH. If you have a 5th grader or know someone accepted on open enrollment permit, or thinking about coming to OJH, please let them know about this night!
STUDY ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND MENTAL HEALTH (students can earn $10 in cash)
We are excited to partner with Dr. Sarah Coyne at Brigham Young University on a research study to examine how social media impacts teen mental health in the state of Utah. If you give your child permission to participate, they will fill out a 10-15 minute survey during their advisory class asking about their social media use and mental health. This will take place in either late January or February. They will also be given an opportunity to complete the survey two more times over the next year. Students will be paid $10 in cash each time they take the survey. Your child is eligible to participate if they are between the ages of 11-17, live in the state of Utah, and speak English.
Click this link to give your permission for your child to participate in the study.
See attached to view the survey questions.
Please contact Dr. Sarah Coyne at smcoyne@byu.edu if you have any questions about your child’s participation.
CCA SUPERDAY
All 8th grade students in “good standing” will attend the Super CCA Day at Olympus HS on January 17th to learn more about career pathways and their career and technical student organizations (clubs). All 8th graders will eat lunch before the field trip and will load on the busses at 11:30am. Students will return to school at 2pm. **Good standing will be determined by grades, citizenship, behavior, referrals, teacher’s or administrator’s discretion, etc.
Field trip permission forms will be handed out after the holiday break, and will need them returned by Wednesday, January 10th.
We will need 15-20 parent volunteers to help us on this field trip, so if you can help, please look for the digital sign-up for parent volunteers from the PTA in January.

PTSA
It’s Membership Week next week! We would love to have every family be a part of our PTSA. By purchasing a membership for $7, you support our programs and activities, including Connection Week, the GRIT run, holiday stomps, Birthday pizza lunches, the 8th grade promotion party, Reflections, and more!! Purchase a membership HERE
Being a member of PTSA builds our community, increases our ability to communicate with you, and gives you a voice and a vote on our budget and programs. It does NOT obligate you to volunteer any time. (Helpful tip: you can also invite grandparents, your student, your spouse, to sign up, too!)
We also have a louder voice when advocating for students at the Utah State Legislature when we have a large and healthy PTSA!
Our PTSA Student Club has kicked off and we have our next meeting this coming Monday, January 8th in room 315 during lunch. Free pizza provided! We are getting our students ready for our advocacy field trip to the Capitol on February 13th. Please encourage your student to attend on Monday if they’d like to learn more! The field trip is free, but we’d like every student to join PTSA for $7.
Make sure to stop by our PTSA table with your student during the Oly Jr. on Parade Incoming Student Open House on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. We will have information and a treat!
We are pleased to announce that our PTSA has awarded Ms. Elisa Eisert the Outstanding Secondary Teacher Award. Congrats to Ms. Eisert! In order to submit her name for awards at the state PTA level, we need to gather additional feedback from our community. Please take the time to fill out this very short survey.
We are also pleased to announce that our PTSA has awarded Ms. Catherine Arveseth the Outstanding Volunteer Award for all her hard work with Connection Week. She wrote the curriculum and has run this program for many years at our school. Congrats to Catherine! In order to submit her name for awards at the state PTA level, we need to gather additional feedback from our community. Please take the time to fill out this very short survey. https://forms.gle/iC41WsAX19aJ6bU17

YEARBOOK
Do you want a yearbook? Now is the time to order one. Due to the new Focus program we are really behind in yearbook orders. Olympus Jr. is required to submit a number to the publisher soon. If you would like to purchase one, please contact the front office or send $20 with your student to order one.
OPEN ENROLLMENT
The Open Enrollment window is open from Nov. 15 till Feb. 2 @ 3pm. The process for this is on-line. The link to Open Enrollment form: https://www.graniteschools.org/psp/open-enrollment/
Please let your friends and neighbors know as this date has changed and we would love to have more of your friends and neighbors come to our school next year. Remember that if you have an 8th grade student on an open enrollment permit, you will need to apply again for Olympus High School.
