The Parent and Community-Alumni Task Force would like to acknowledge and recognize our Granger High School DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD recipient(s) 2021.: SHARA PARKER PARK (Class of 2000) and CHRISTIAN LUNA (Class of 2012). The Granger High School DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD is given to a Granger Alumnus and Alumna based on significant professional achievement in his or her field of endeavor, and continued service and involvement with the Granger and West Valley community.
Shara Park is a five-time Emmy award winning journalist and is currently a news anchor for KSL TV. Shara has worked for KSL for 14 years and during that time has traveled the world covering major breaking news events, this summer she was an Olympic Correspondent for NBC Sports covering the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Shara has been recognized multiple times for her reporting by the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In 2019 she received an Emmy for her work on the documentary Road to Recovery, which took an in depth look at opioid abuse in Utah. Shara’s reporting on school safety and the Safe UT app is featured in a series of reports that won KSL TV the prestigious Edward R. Murrow for Outstanding Journalism. In 2019 Shara was named Utah’s best television reporter by Utah’s Society of Professional Journalist, and in 2020 and 2021 she was awarded Best Series for her stories on Utahns making a difference, and Utah’s children living in foster care. Shara graduated from Northern Illinois University. At NIU she was awarded a full athletic scholarship to play volleyball for the Division I Huskies, she was also a member of the Track & Field team. Shara grew up in West Valley City and graduated from Granger High School in 2000. As a Lancer she competed in four sports; Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, and Track and Field. As a sophomore at Granger she served as class president, and as a senior she worked on G-TV and was homecoming royalty. Shara currently lives in Sandy with her husband Nick and their two kids, 10 year-old William, and 8-year-old Jane.
Christian Luna is 27 years old. Christan and his family emigrated here to the US from Mexico back in 2005 looking for a better future. Christian graduated from Granger High School in 2012. Christian has two handsome little boys. Christian had the privilege of being a part of the Granger High School Men’s soccer team. Christian’s best memory is when he was able to score the FIRST GOAL ever on this field. To this day, Christian still cherishes the soccer ball from that game. Christian is a proud business owner ofLos Tapatios Taco Grill. Christain is happy to announce that… he will be opening his second restaurant location here in West Valley City, a place he calls home.
