Dear Granger High Parents and Families,
We want to thank you for your patience and understanding while a Lockout Protocol was initiated at Granger High School earlier today. We wanted to update you on the information we have now been provided regarding this matter.
A juvenile male suspect who is not a student at Granger High trespassed onto school property and had a brief altercation with a student in a restroom, after which he then left the campus. The incident was reported to law enforcement and the school initiated a Lockout Protocol and secured the exterior doors to prevent the suspect from coming back on campus and give police opportunity to speak with him. Police located the suspect, and he was taken into custody around 1:30 p.m. and the protocol was lifted. Police are still investigating the incident, but we want to be clear that no threats were made to the school and the incident was limited to the interaction between these two individuals.
The district and school shared information about the Lockout Protocol and the incident as soon as we were able, but some initial information was limited as it was part of the ongoing police investigation. It’s important to remember that information about Safety Protocols will not be relayed until all students are safely accounted for, and all information is verified and accurate.
We are grateful for those students who embrace our culture of “see something, say something” and reported this incident to law enforcement. We are also grateful for the immediate response from the Granite Police Department and for their help in securing the school and locating the suspect.
Student safety is always our primary concern, and we thank you for your support while we work to keep kids safe.
Sincerely,
Granite School District
