Mat Crandall, 5th grade teacher at Oakwood Elementary, is leading his students into the 21st Century through the use of technology. Mr. Crandall knows that the use of technology increases student learning and participation in the classroom. His goal is to get his students to use technology to complete their assignments and show creativity in the process. Not only is this method of teaching working, but the students love to participate in class.
Recently students completed a podcast book report on a famous explorer. Students had to record and edit their own podcast then create a QR sign so that Mr. Crandall could use his QRReader to hear and give feedback on the students’ book reports. This creative process inspired one of his students, who usually does not complete work, to turn in an outstanding and well prepared podcast book report.
Students also enjoy using iTouch devices to complete assessments in class. Mat is a great example of what a 21st Century teacher needs to be to help all students succeed in the classroom.
